These commercials, apparently sponsored by the Girl Scouts, have been cute. The “Daaady, why is the thsky blue?” one [Blue Sky] melted our hearts while the urban street scene one [See the World] reminded us to keep it real. I have never seen the third in the series [Bedtime Story] on TV. They can all be seen at the Girls Go Tech ad website.
Sorry to say, girls, I’ve found a glaring flaw in See the World ad. Its not my fault you show the ad about twice an hour around here (Milwaukee). It really didn’t take much scrutiny to see this.
Throughout the commercial are superimposed, chalkboard-style, ‘scientific’ looking diagrams and equations. About halfway through the ad is a dog barking. The drawing shows a sinusoid (presumably representing sound, unless they mean the sound impulse but this gets weird) with axes labeled amplitude and frequency. Of course, this should be amplitude and time. This is hardly a nitpick as the independent variable domain was completely botched. A sinusoidal at a single frequency should appear as a single vertical line for the given axes.
I’m sure the Girl Scouts want to keep this under wraps and, outside of this board, a few classmates and my buddy Dan, no one knows of this error. I could perhaps be silenced given the proper enticement. Contact me as to where to send the cookies. I’m especially partial to the Peanut Butter and shortbread varieties. I’m certain we can come to some agreement.
