Give me my car!!!

I thought about it. At least then I would have a police report documenting what they are telling me since they refuse to put anything in writing.

I don’t want to waste police resources with something like this if I can avoid it.

Is this dealer unfamiliar with the concept of money? If you arranged a loan for the vehicle through your bank or credit union, then they issued you a check in the full amount for the purchase of the vehicle. As far as the dealer’s concerned, you didn’t buy the car on a loan, you bought it outright. If you default on the loan, the car’s not his; it’s the bank’s.

Have you walked down to the local Better Business Bureau yet?

I have the paperwork for the DMV. I just need to make copies of my docs and put a stamp on the envelope.

The guy asked me today if the finance manager explained that there would be a hold on the check. I told him no, that the first I heard of 10 days was Monday morning on my answering machine after I signed paperwork stating otherwise. He said it was “standard business practice” when they take checks. I said, “If it is your standard business practice, you have it in writing somewhere. Please provide me a copy of it.” Nope. It’s “not in writing.” :dubious:

As for the money: I was told that I could be running a huge scam. My letter could be fake. The fax the bank sent could be a fake. And they don’t have a way of proving otherwise. If I call tomorrow, I can speak to the head manager.

The only reason I left both the car and the check there in the first place was because it needed the stereo. The stereo was ready Tues night/Wed morning.

Bumping to ask if you have any updates. This is totally insane, and I’m curious about if anything’s resolved yet.

I second the curiosity.

Yes! The same manager that threatened repeatedly to cancel the contract called yesterday and said, “You can come pick up your car.” He didn’t speak more than 2 words to me (“sign here”) when I picked it up.

I still haven’t heard from the owner.

My first reaction to that would be: Huh? What?
Second reaction: Say to them, “Well, obviously, you guys are quite familiar with scams.”

This is not the place to be getting a vehicle, in my humble opinion. It’s certainly a place to be writing down names and business license numbers and then talking to the state government about, again in my humble opinion.

There’s a big display board with all of the state issued vehicle saleperson’s licenses displayed. I wrote down the full name and license number of every person I have dealt with.

So far I have contacted Scion to file a complaint, as well as the DMV, and the FTC. I’ll be checking my credit every month for the next few months just in case they ran my credit anyway.

It’s now the 29th. Did/will they deliver?

:smack: You got the car…
