What I mean is most of the Rap/Hip-Hop I hear is just not aggressive enough. I love the lyrics but the music is somewhat slow. I want something with a little faster tempo. The only things I hear from rap is usually the hybrid of it with Metal. So as a starter here is stuff I have heard that I thought was outstanding.
Soulfly & Cutthroat Logic- In Memory Of…
Fear Factory & B-Real- Back The F**k up!
Rage Against The Machine-
Endo & Xzibit- Welcome To LA
Ozzy Osbourne & Wu-Tang Clan- (can’t recall the track it’s on the Loud Rocks CD)
Limp Bizkit- Three Dollar Bill CD (Just didn’t care for much of what they put out after this with exception of Break Stuff)
I wonder if it’s due to that fact that a high temp would make it harder to “Flow” over.
So come on all you Hip-Hop/Rap guru’s I know there has to be something out there that will work.
Dead Prez is pretty aggressive in parts so try them out. And even though Outkast aren’t heavy they like to use guitars every now and then, hell, Gasoline Dreans is the only hip-hop song I know with a guitar solo.
I’ll second Body Count. You might check out Biohazard, more metal they rap but in the vein… Also definitely check out Stuck Mojo they are super heavy! See http://jahnke.net/stuckmojo/ & http://www.thegauntlet.com/stuckmojo.html. I only have the first three relases but they rock.
Now I feel old. Ozzy and Wu tang put out a song and I don’t even know about it.
I imagine that high-tempo rap would be hard to flow with. Then its not really rap, its more rap/metal hybrid stuff. Try these tunes…BIATCH!!
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Ice-T - older stuff
Public Enemy w Anthrax - Bring the Noise
some Kid Rock
I’m a long-time hip-hop fan and I can think of almost no music to fit your requirements. I can think of plenty of lyrically agressive MCs, but virtually none of them devote any time to flowing over fast beats.
Quick tempos in rap create short, staccato lyrics that lack complexity. Try to write a poem where every line is limited to five syllables and has to rhyme. Not very interesting, right?
On top of that, “aggressive” in hip-hop usually means “gangster” and jumping around to a fast beat is the antithesis of gangster. Gangsters are cool and calm. Only real example I can think of is a track called The Bomb off Ice Cube’s first album. I suspect you’ll have to stick to rap/rock stuff…
ok, here are some tracks I´d consider more aggresive than other stuff, though they`re not really that fast and only one song samples guitars, but what the hell:
X-Ecutioners feat. M.O.P - Let It Bang ( the only song on this list with guitars, you should like this, good scratching , too)
Gangstarr feat. Big Shug & Freddie Foxx - The Militia
LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out
Aesop Rock - 9-5ers Anthem
Busta Rhymes - Woo Hah (Fila Mix 4)
Company FLow - End To End Burners
KRS One - Outta Here
Evidence - Searching 4 Bobby Fisher (nice Eminem-Diss, too)
Mekon feat. Schooly D - Skool`s Out (actually this is more Big Beat than Hip Hop )
Freestylers - B Boy Stance (again, more Big Beat/D´n´B, but a massive tune, everybody loves it )
Group Home - Livin Proof (classic)
Dr Doom (aka Kool Keith) - Housing Authority
Gunshot - Mind Of A Razor (ah, the good old days of English hardcore …)
Smut Peddlers feat. Kool Savas - That Smut (great tune, unfortunally it features one of the worst german MCs)
Swollen Members - Anthrax Island
New Flesh feat. Ramm Ell Zee - Mack Facts
Smoothe Da Hustler - Broken Language
Paris had some pretty hard stuff on his first LP, cant remember the names though, oh and of course anything by Onyx, at least their older stuff, IIRC they also have recorded a couple of tracks with afroementioned Biohazard
I gotta second Rage Against The Machine. Listen to everything they have done. You will not be disappointed! Some of my favorite tracks:
Wake Up
Mic Check
New Millenium Homes
No Shelter
Bulls On Parade
War Within A Breath
In My Eyes (from Renegades)
People Of The Sun
All of it is good. I have never heard a RATM song I didn’t like.
