So I’m sitting there at work today, casually ignoring the glurge coming out of the radio (it’s set to the local “Jack” station AKA “We play random crap in hopes that you’ll switch to one of the satellite services we own.”) when You Outta Know by Alanis Morressette (or however you spell her last name) comes on. I start singing along absent mindedly, and when the song cuts off, I realize, “Hey! I haven’t felt this good in years!” Obviously, I need to be listening to real “wrath of God” music. Anybody got any suggestions? (BTW, I’ve already got almost of NIN releases, so that’s covered.)
Can’t go wrong with OLD Metallica…
Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, …and Justice for All
If you want specific songs rather than albums I can give you some favorites.
Very true. Gov’t Mule also has some stuff that works, particularly in the early years.
You want me to share the track listings from my “Villainy,” “Armageddon,” or “Stress” iTunes playlists?
Anyway, some of my favorites…
Motherf_cker by Beck
*Do the Evolution by Pearl Jam
Bodies by Drowning Pool
Beer for my Horses by Willie Nelson
*Banging in the Nails and Start a Fire by The Tiger Lillies
Kill All the Humans by Rob Crow
I’d Love to Knock the Hell out of You by Hank Williams Jr.
Kill the Poor by the Dead Kennedys
Panzerlied
Life is a Lemon (And I want my Money Back) by Meat Loaf
The Dogs of War by Pink Floyd
Well, that might skew more towards “raving psychopath” than “angry,” but what the heck!
Megadeath works for me. As does some old school LL Cool J and Public Enemy.
Song for the Dumped by Ben Folds Five would, I think, qualify:
“So you wanted to take a break
Slow it down some
And have some space…
Well, fuck you, too!”
And how about that Presidential Hat Company?
Elvis Costello’s Spike album. P J Harvey’s Rid of Me album. Paintpeelers, bith of them.
In a classical vein:
Mars, Bringer of War The Planets-Holst
The Rite of Spring Stravinsky
Night on Bald Mountain Moussorsky (Can’t remember how to spell his name)
Flight of the Valkeries Wagner
Oh! Fortuna Carmina Burana - Orff
Requiem Verdi
Thats just great. ALl of the spaces I inserted so you can tell the Title from the composer went away. Damn! :smack:
Rammstein’s Mutter CD is fantastic driving music (if you can get past the band shouting “Bang! Bang!” in one song…)
Calla is very not-metal, but there are a few tracks on their latest CD, Collisions, that have a nice, low-boil seethe to them.
Icon of Coil’s Machines Are Us is pretty good, too.
VNV Nation has come out with more than I can name right off the top of my head.
More in about eight hours, when I’ve had some proper sleep.
Ministry always works for me. Especially “A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste.”
SoundGarden: Gun, Jesus Christ Pose
Slipknot: People = Shit.
Agent Orange: Police Truck (Dead Kenedy’s cover)
Alice in Chains: We Die Young
Helmet: Ironhead
Rorschach Test: Sex (berlin cover??)
Ministry: Cannibal Song, Thieves, N.W.O., Just One Fix
Rage Against the Machine: um yeah pretty much everything
Tad: Behemoth
Tool: Flood, Swamp Song, Ticks & Leeches
Iron Maiden: Wrathchild
Garbage: Push it
Tom Waits: Earth Died Screaming, 16 shells from a 30.06
Neil Young: Down by the River, Ohio
Fiona Apple: Sleep to Dream
Massive Attack: Angel, Dissolved Girl, Inertia Creeps
Jay-Z & Dj Dangermouse: 99 Problems
Daisy Chainsaw: Love Your Money
Melt Banana: Wedge (well I think its angery, they sound pretty pissed anyway)
that should keep you busy for awhile
oooh forgot one,
Stark Effect: 14
Lots of Clash: Clampdown, Career Opportunities, Garageland, I Fought the Law…
Abfacklen by Einsturzende Neubauten comes to mind, or most of the Group Sex album by Circle Jerks. Hmmm, Wild in the Streets had some good stuff on it too… Murder the Disturbed always comes to mind when I think about the in-laws, ferinstance…
Revenge by Black Flag
Any and all of the 60s anti-war and counter-culture stuff.
Excellent work Critical1.
To add to that list:
Lennon - Give me some truth
Fiona apple - Get gone
Tool - Hooker with a penis
Rage Against the Machine. - Everything. (They certainly seem quite displeased with the machine. Their debut is by far the best cd. Killing in the name is perhaps the epitomal angry song.)
White stripes - There’s no home for you here
Led Zeppelin - Dazed and confused (Hmm, he is a bit ambivalent about his anger. But the energy level of this song has been matched very few times since)
Radiohead - Just
Queen - Death on two legs
Black Sabbath - Evil Woman
Placebo - Slackerbitch
Nirvana - Stay away
Pantera - Mouth of War
Green Day - Platypus (I hate you) (Ok, not the best Green Day song, but it has platypus in the title.)
Depeche Mode - John the revelator
To my great regret, I couldnt fit a Beatles song in that list. My best suggestion is “I, me mine”.
