I’m thinking of entering a dessert contest at work next week. I wasn’t working last year, but apparently two of my co-workers in the ER took 2nd and 3rd last year in a hospital wide contest. This is a fundraiser for something or other. From what I understand there are three judges (local chefs or newspeople or something) that decide the winners of the contest. But other hospital personnel can come and pay $5 to eat samples from each entry.
So I need something that I can make a presentation out of for the judges, but also divides well into sample size portion.
I believe last year’s winner was a pumpkin cheesecake. I have considered doing cinnamon rolls or some sort of chocolate dish, but I need to have a dessert that can be served room temp as I will have to drive it there from my house (approx 30min) and I’m not sure how long it is going to be sitting before being judged.
Basically, using one of these pans, you bake 12 funny shaped cupcakes. then you set the cupcakes close together, decorate the whole thing like it’s one cake, and when you are ready, pull each individual cupcake apart. I think it’s a really cute idea. I saw some seasonal pans like this at Target today.
(Although, I’m not sure I’d be all that impressed by your competition if this in fact won . . . )
Damn, that does sound yummy. How would you present a single slice? I’m thinking a drizzle of ganache on the plate, then the pie, topped with a fresh slice of lime or a little lime zest.
You’d win with a chocolate pudding cake, but that is best served warm with fresh whipped cream melting into it. Do you have a way of heating up servings for the judges? 30 seconds in the microwave is enough for a pudding cake serving.
