Judging guidelines for a bake-off

Anybody have a copy of any score sheets or guidelines given to judges in a small-scale bake-off, or a link to such? My church is having a bake-off for desserts in conjunction with our city’s bicentennial celebration, and I’m tasked with finding something to use as judging criterion. My only claim to expertise in this area? I bake, and when we decided to do the bake-off I was reading a murder mystery where a bake-off and its judging were a prominent plot point. Thin qualifications indeed! I thought it would be easy for find something online, from another church or a county fair or somewhere, but my Google-fu has failed, and so has my other source, my sister the home-ec teacher (please forgive me…Family Living teacher whatever!) who can’t find the stuff from her county fair. So I turn to the experts of the Dope to point me in the right direction! And if anyone can help us convince local celeb chef Michael Symon to be one of the judges, since he just opened a restaurant down the street and surely could use the extra publicity…lol.

Will it be large enough to divide into categories (cookies, cakes, pies, etc.) or will everything be lumped in together?

No need to get too overly detailed with the judging. Perhaps a 1-10 point scale for appearance, moistness, and flavor?

It may be worth noting that the term “bake-off” is a trademark of Pillsbury. I have no idea how aggressive they are, but your church or whatever probably doesn’t want to receive a cease and desist letter from The Doughboy.

I dod find this infoon how to judge a pie contest when searching on the terms baking contest judging criteria

Well…OK…this has nothing to do with criteria for judging a bake-off, but it is about judging a cooking contest, and very funny. (Text only, but has harsh language).

Oh, that was very funny, Oakminster! And that link was helpful, gotpasswords, thank you…We’ll take the bake-off thing under advisement. And Drain Bead, if we get more than ten entries we will be amazed, so we will have to see on the day how many categories to have. Right now we just have it categorized by Anything from Adults, Anything from Kids and Anything from Anyone Not a Church Member. I actually will be out of town on the day, AND I promised not to enter anything unless they were desperate for entries (obviously my contribution will be frozen and stashed in the freezer, to be used for the cakewalk if they get enough entries).
