And you’d call the cops on her on Halloween night?
I was kidding, of course not.
I’d be more likely to ask her to come in for a cup of tea and try to make sure that she’s not AWOL from a retirement home or something. My Gran would do stuff like that.
C’mon, OP - don’t leave us hanging; what’d your mom finally do?
It was nothing, wasn’t it?
No, she went out with a neighbor (who was taking her own baby out in a stroller). She (mom) did, in fact, go trick or treating, no costume. She said everyone she met was so nice and gave her lots of candy. She came home with a pretty big size bag full. We’re now (we being me, her, and my stepdad) all enjoying it. I have already eaten at least 3/4s of the stuff, so I can’t complain.
I sat at home and gave out M&Ms and NO church cards.
Once my sister and I were too old for Hallowe’en, our Dad would go out and have some fun.
He’d throw on a costume, and go out to the neighbours who he knew–the funniest was when he put on a dress and a floppy woman’s hat (and men’s work boots at the same time)–though he also once went out as Chewbacca. He only went to the neighbours who knew him, which was pretty much a few houses on our short street. His goodie bag ended up with some candy, but also, a few bottles of beer.
Dad wasn’t in it for candy or beer; he just wanted to go out and have fun. And he did; the neighbours had lots of laughs, and so did Dad.
All that being said, I don’t think an adult heading out just because he or she wants candy, is correct. But I see no problem with an adult heading out to have a little fun with the neighbours. Dad was lousy with April Fool’s jokes (those were Mom’s speciality), but he could get the neighbours laughing on Hallowe’en.
We’re in the States visiting Grandma and this is the first time my kids have been TOT’ing. The last time I was on the passing out candy side, I was in my teens.
We went around a dozen houses in my sister’s subdivision. We tried really hard to have our kids make sure they said Treat or Treat," “Happy Halloween,” and “Thank you.” It was really fun.
There were a few teenagers and junior high school kids out as well, and it just seems strange. This is something for kids.
I would do a WTF if I saw an adult with her hands out.
That sounds nice and fun all around!
Your mom is cool. ![]()
