Someone that I have met a few times but don’t really know personally put out an ad with a wildly unrealistic claim. The kind of thing that doesn’t pass the laugh test. I emailed her and asked where she got the statistic, hoping to prompt her to look in to it. She just said that one of their clients had given her the info.
I did a little research and have numbers to back up my claim that her statement isn’t true. I have nothing to gain whether she makes this false claim or not. But I hate to see someone I like put out an ad that is so blatently WRONG. Should I tell her what I’ve found and give her the numbers I got? Or should I just let her go on her merry way thinking that her statistic is accurate? Is this a mind-your-own-business situation? But what could happen if someone sees it in the ad and takes it at face value and then, after spending lots of money, finds out that it’s wrong?
