Glasgow and New York crashes

I had noticed that there doesn’t seem to be a thread anywhere about the accident in Glasgow on Friday night, and it made me wonder whether it had been reported outside this country. I’d been wondering, and then a train crashed in New York (with fewer fatalities but more injured, it seems) and displaced Glasgow as the BBC’s top headline.

So I’d like to know: did anyone anywhere else hear about Glasgow? Was it given anything like the prominence the British media are apparently giving to the New York derailment?

If you could, I’d be interested to know where you are and your news source(s). Thanks.

I heard about both incidents on CBC radio and Twitter here in Canada.

In the Netherlands… both got attention, maybe even more for the Glasgow thing with the news talking with correspondents in the UK (and this was before any final word on fatalities). I haven’t seen today’s news yet, so i don’t know if they did the same with New York.

New York bumped Glasgow off the headline UK news here (Glasgow), but we’re still headlining the Scottish news, oddly enough.

(everyone I know’s fine, a few friends of my sisters made it out okay, including one of the band)

USA

Saw them both online first, then both on national TV news

Glasgow was front page at seatttle times dot com.

Glad everyone’s OK. I don’t know anyone who’s likely to have been drinking there. And (for obvious reasons) my experience of the media is the same as yours - both crashes reported but Glasgow is a lot closer to home than New York.

Am I going mad, or do you recall a helicopter crash at Eastwood Toll in the 1980s?

I don’t, but my family do, they weretalking about ityesterday.

Ironically I learned about the Clutha crash via a text from **Cicero **saying he hoped my family were all okay. I’d no idea what he was on about

I’ve only heard about Glasgow, and I live in CT right next door to NY. I’m guessing the NY one was later and I’m not caught up yet.

I’m in LA. I heard about Glasgow because BBC is in my Twitter feed. My wife told me about NY because she’s from NJ and her friends back east were posting about it on Facebook.

I’m somewhat glad I’m not imagining things. Back in those days I used to drive past Eastwood Toll regularly.

Can’t recall how I heard about Friday’s crash - I think it was on FB of all places.

In the USA - saw both on cable news. They weren’t as sensationalized as some other breaking news, but both got (or are getting) plenty of attention.

I’ve only heard about NY. This is probably because I hardly ever keep up on current events. I need to change that.

I heard about Glasgow first. I’m pretty sure I heard it on BBC radio news. It was front page in the local paper this morning too. I live on the Left Coast of the U.S.

Here in the Greater Midwest, I’ve been seeing stories about the Glasgow copter crash for the last two days.

I wasn’t aware there’d been a train derailment in New York.

I get most of my news from my phone. I have the following news apps, cnn, Fox, BBC, News4(local NBC) and NJ.com (Newark Star Ledger). All of those outlets covered both. But of course the NYC crash is a local(ish) story here

And I always liked saying Spuyten Duyvil. Try it, it’s fun.

I have a selection of clippers I use, and both of them were on my news clipper. I rarely discuss news, but holy shit my roomie is annoying, she always does the whole recreational outrage/recreational shock and mourning about stuff and it is way seriously annoying… It isn’t as if it happened to her, any of our friends or family, or anybody we know, so getting her panties in a bunch does nothing. It also annoys me to hear her ranting when something screws up in her online game … I really don’t care to hear FUCK … DAMN … furious pounding on the poor little keyboard… Christ on a crutch, I lost what would be several hundred $$ in real money if I had bought in game money more than once playing EVE Online … and I didn’t bother mentioning it, shit in game happens.

Heard about the Glasgow crash on the TV news, been following in a thread on another message board that has a much higher proportion of UK folks than here.

Heard about the NY crash this morning, again on the TV news.

Both are getting media play here in the Chicago area.

Neither one. I don’t pay attention to the news, really.

I only heard about the NY crash. But I live in New York and not in Glasgow.
