Glee: 2.09 "Special Education" (open spoilers)

Why would Brittany, who doesn’t even know what recycling is, know what the word “dolt” means?

Kurt is such a free spirit that I think the stifling atmosphere at the academy will be too much for him to handle gracefully.

I was pretty shocked about Emma, but I hope this means we’ll be seeing more of John Stamos.

Totally off topic, but are any of you watching LXD on Hulu? It’s a web production about a league of dancers and Harry Chum (Mike Chang) is one of the main choreographers. I’ve seen a few episodes and they’re good enough for me to pursue it a bit further.

i think it’s more of a stretch to say brittany doesn’t know what a “dolt” is than to have her think that being “an adult” means to be stupid/always losing combs.

they’re definitely setting up the plot to lead that way aren’t they? i don’t like it. every plot line involving kurt makes me like him less and less. even the death-threat one.

glass half empty - seeing less of emma? she’s getting married, less neurotic, and thus less involved with the school/glee. it seems like the sane people of the glee universe tend to avoid will shuster (original gym teacher) and only the crazy ones stick around.

He’d pretty much have to since McKinley is in Lima and Dalton is in Westerville. They are 90 miles apart with most of that drive not being on a freeway. A 180 mile round trip for school would be one heckuva commute.

It’s no wonder people can’t make out what Brittany says. She’s a buddha of absurdity.

I imagine she’s been called a dolt more than once.

I like Kurt, but I have to agree. They need to focus away from him for a few episodes and concentrate on the other characters.

I actually kind of like that Kurt isn’t all sweet and charm as it makes him more real (to the extent anything on GLEE is real). He is a teenager after all and that’s a pretty self-absorbed age. I agree they need to backburner him for a while, though I think that’s coming once Jesse and Sunshine come back into play.

So Carl/John Stamos or Will/Matthew Morrison- the actors or the characters they play- if you had to choose one or the other which would it be and why?

I have to lean towards Carl. For one thing he’s hotter. For another, his character is weird but he isn’t the manipulator that Will can and will be given the opportunity, at least not yet. For yet another, he’s hotter.

Clips of A Very Glee Christmas including the gayest recording to date of Baby It’s Cold Outside.

I just listened again, and I hear “dolt”.

Half of these stem from Rachel actually being talented enough to justify her notions of self-worth, and the rest come from being a teenager.

The most unrealistic part of that was that someone could make it through the whole song without making inappropriate advances toward Darren Criss. If that were me, it’d end with me trying to explain to the police that he was totally flirting with me for, like, thirty seconds, and how could anyone resist, really? Or, at the very least, it wouldn’t have ended in anything that could realistically be shown on network TV.

Incidentally, this is pretty nice, but what a difference. I’ve got nothing against white-boy 'fros like that in general, but he looks so much better without it.

You are so bad.

Freakin’ adorable.

I loved this episode. I am a diehard EVITA fan and I also adore that song Dog Days Are Over. It was interesting to see Kurt’s dream school was not quite the image of perfection he’d anticipated.

I don’t think Rachel is a terrible person, but I have zero sympathy for her and was happy to see Puck do something selfless for a change.

Olivesmarch - What’d you mean? Just the other day, Puck was selflessly helping a crip!

“Dolt” makes much more sense. And has been noted, she’s probably heard it a lot.

Is it just me or did it half look like Kurt was going to spray him and then assume the submissive bonobo position when he was walking around the room? OTOH I hope that the fact they don’t touch, even when he says “I’ll hold your hands they’re just like ice”, is somehow plot related and not just cowardice on the part of the network cause I really wanna see some makeout twixt those two.

This being a prep school for teenaged boys it probably wouldn’t be anything that hasn’t happened in there before. I bet if that oil portrait on the wall could talk he’d have some tales that would make E.M. Forster salivate.

Oh, tons. And while I certainly can’t criticize anybody’s lack of tone I also don’t pose for shirtless pics- Darren, bubie, cut the hair, hit the freeweights, wax, tan, and you’ll be a total 10, but til then, just… no to the fro, no to the shirtless pics.

That said, I will be almost disappointed if he doesn’t become huge (in terms of musical success) in the next couple of years. I like his voice better than Josh Groban’s, Michael Buble’s, or most other bestselling EZ listening available today. Colfer also has a beautiful voice of course but works way better in duets than solo- I don’t know that I’d buy a whole album of it.

I’d call any advance entirely appropriate. But damn, are those nasty Dalton jackets (that red trim? Ech) the private school version of the WMHS cheerleader outfit, to be worn every moment of consciousness? That said, Kurt looks much snazzier in it than most of the stuff he’d wear to school at WM. But take Blaine to the Gap, stat.

Just rewatched the episode and have a couple of questions. When Kurt was waiting in chair after audition for his solo with a couple of guys, he asked how many times they had auditioned. They replied 3 and 5 I think. What had they auditioned for? Certainly not solos as they weren’t featured at sectionals. Were they auditioning for the club?

Also, what was it about Kurt’s audition that made Blaine tell him he tried too hard. Aren’t you supposed to give it your all at an audition. You definitely wouldn’t want to sound mediocre and Kurt is anything but mediocre. It’s rather ironic that he has been trying for a solo so long at WMHS and when he’s finally offered one he transfers, only to once again be part of the chorus.

I don’t think ‘‘you tried too hard’’ was really the right message. I think what Blaine was trying to say is that Kurt’s choice of music was narcissistic (’‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’’ is a self-aggrandizing homage to oneself) and if he wanted to get ahead in the Warblers he was going to have to prove he was a team player.

I hated the dubbed voices for the Hipsters. Surely there must be mature singers they could have used. Having them sound like sixteen year olds was insulting to us and them.
