Glee: 2.04 "Duets" (open spoilers)

Sounds interesting. The new guy Sam will be getting some screentime.

The Thorn Birds: The Musical!

For those who aren’t aware, that last duet between Kurt and Rachel is an absolutely LOVING homage to this iconic duet from the Judy Garland Show.

I hope the folks who were threatening to give up on the show stuck it out for one more week – this was a good one. Plenty of plot, the songs were appropriate to the story, and a bunch of great numbers. Loved Tina and Mike! Loved Brittany pushing the meatball across the table with her nose.

And loved loved loved Barbra and Judy’s duet at the end.*

*Heh. Hadn’t even remembered that duet and it was clear who was channeling who.

It was nice seeing Kurt being called out for stalking Finn, and it does seem like he’s becoming self-aware enought to avoid repeating it with Sam. Still Finn really came off like a major asshole re Kurt & Sam doing a duet. He was only concenced about Sam being bullied insofar as it’d make him drop out of Glee club.

As for Sam’s orientation I’m going to withold guessing on that for a few more episodes. All of his interaction with Quinn seemed slightly off. :dubious: Him coming from an all-boy boarding school complicates this even further. It could be that he’s just really sheltered. There’s been conflicting reports online over his character.

Oh, and could someone please tell me exactly why Finn & Rachel’s duet was so offensive? I did think it was bad and I felt like I should be offended, but was fuzzy on why?

And what does it say that Finn looks even hotter in a clerical collar? :o

Am I the only one disappointed we didn’t get to see Artie and Brittany’s duet?

The episode has not aired here yet, but encouraged to hear they have returned to that little thing called “plot”.
Looking forward to it and hope this is the episode that perks the show back up.

(Looking forward to Carol Burnett showing up sometime later this season…without spoiling it, her character sounds like quite a hoot!)

Chord Overstreet is phenomenally good looking in general but…his mouth is just too big! He kind of looks like he could play the Joker with no problems.

The Bieber cut isn’t helping either.

I loved the Kurt/Rachel duet. I think my problem with Rachel is she never sings as herself - she’s always someone else, usually Barbra. She has an amazing voice, but I’d like to hear it when it wasn’t karaoke.

Seeing brittany roll the meatball with her nose was so sad and funny. And everyone’s extreme enthusiasm about going to Breadstix! was hilarious! You’d think none of them ever got to eat out.

I liked River Deep Mountain High. I’m a sucker for old music.

Both “Le Jazz Hot” and “Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again” made me very happy. I was also glad that Finn was able to call out Kurt about his stalkerish behavior last season and perhaps finally get his point across. Bravo to all!

I loved this episode! Much better than the past few shows. Still not much plot to speak of, but the duets were great–especially Mercedes/“Satan”, Tina/Mike (really creative! where does that song come from?), and Rachel/Kurt at the end.

The Brittany/meatball gag cracked me up, as did Rachel and Finn’s duet and the reaction to it.

The best part was Santana and Brittany making out!

A Chorus Line

Is Sam going to be taking a shower in every episode? NTTAWWT

It was a romantic duet between a priest and a Catholic schoolgirl.

*The only thing you can give Brittany, that she can’t get from somewhere else, is super choice parking. *

Other shows have done a good job showing how high school cruelty works, but I don’t think it has ever been done this casually. That adds a nice layer of realism to it.

Thanks–one of the things I like about *Glee *is that it exposes me to great songs I’ve been previously unfamiliar with, from different genres.

I don’t like musicals (which begs the question of why I like “Glee” so much), but that last duet with Rachel and Finn absolutely killed. They managed to get Rachel to stop doing that whiny, nasal, “hyeeeh” thing she does at the start of every phrase she sings.

Loved it! It was all the things I look for in Glee … good numbers, some mild plot, great Brittany lines. I actually prefer the show when it doesn’t try to get too deep, but I was both impressed and touched by how well the Brittany/Artie plot was handled … in just a few lines, you got so much about the characters.

The Rachel/Kurt conversation by the lockers and their duet was sweet, and usually I get cynical about that sort of thing (not about supporting gay teens - I’m thumbs up on that – but rather shoe-horning scenes into pop TV that relate to the current events message du jour).

Unfortunately, that’s probably more to do with her trying to emulate Barbra Streisand for the duet than anything the musical direction did with her.
