Agreed. There is no way Rachel would not know that. And the “punchline” of that joke (“I should have known they were fake when the guy tried to run my credit card through his butt crack,”) was something you’d hear in *Family Guy *or The Simpsons, not a show that’s supposed to be based in reality (even though it’s a bizarre alternate type of reality.)
That’s just another example of the laziness and bad writing found in this episode. (Also, they ate dinner at Sardi’s and then next moment are wandering around the West Village? Then Rachel runs off by herself to their hotel, presumably in the theatre district? Riiiight.)
I turned to my wife at the end and said “of course they lost. If they didn’t, they’d have nowhere to go for next year. Oh, and also it probably had something to do with them writing their set an hour before showtime.”
Anyway, I’ve seen about half of season 1, a few episodes and bits and pieces of season 2. So I’m not sure if it’s a plus to new viewers or a minus to old viewers that I wasn’t lost at all when watching last night despite only seeing maybe 20-25% of Glee’s total episodes. Seriously, I only had one question:
“Wasn’t that kid at another school?”
“Yeah. He came back.”
“Oh. OK.”
No me gusta. *Way *too much mawkishness, way too much Rachel, no Sue, and the revelation that they’re all coming back next year. Apparently no one in Lima has time to go to class often enough to graduate on schedule. And the frolic around the Lincoln Center fountain has been done.
Anyway, they’ve done Sectionals, Regionals, lost at Nationals — any doubt they win Nationals next year and go on to do graduate work at the Worlds in Season 4? Maybe before all the cast turns 30?
What was up with Kurt’s hair in this episode? It was almost Flock of Seagulls-esque.
The AV Club review for this episode says it seems like it was written immediately after the season premier, when it seemed like New Directions/Rachel vs. Vocal Adrenaline/Sunshine would be an important ongoing storyline. It was nice to see Rachel show some growth as a person and reach out to a rival, but this subplot would have made a much bigger impact if 1) Sunshine hadn’t gone unseen and unmentioned for 19 of the previous 21 episodes, and 2) it hadn’t been virtually identical to the Kurt and Rachel subplot way back in the sectionals episode.
Until the last few minutes the finale basically ignored all the ongoing storylines of the season, with the exception of the Finn/Rachel romance…which was a rehash of last season anyway. Thinking of which, it seems increasingly weird to me that Rachel doesn’t seem to realize that Kurt is Finn’s stepbrother, and that Finn doesn’t seem to realize that Kurt and Rachel are close friends. You’d think at least one of them would have been asking Kurt for inside info about the other.
Seriously! If they’d made any effort at all to justify the need for original songs at any point in the last few episodes then I’d feel a lot more kindly towards this episode. Or they could have said back in the prom episode that they had songs ready to go, and we could just imagine that they’ve been rehearsing when they weren’t working on their prom performance or the funeral.
I also don’t buy that everyone was on board with giving Finn a solo. We’re supposed to believe that Jesse’s method of having people audition for solos was divisive, but it’s good for the group to just have Finn as the default male soloist? Even the Warblers had a formal process they went through before awarding yet another solo to Blaine. Mike Chang said that a Finn/Rachel duet was most likely to win them the competition, but their track record doesn’t support this.
I think one of the great weaknesses of this season is that they reverted Quinn back to the way she was early in season one. During her pregnancy and for the first part of season two she seemed to have learned a lot about life the hard way and emerged a sadder but wiser (and nicer) young woman. Then all of a sudden she was back to being an unfaithful “Mean Girl” whose only concern was her social standing at school.
That bothered me, too. It would have worked better with ANY character other than Rachel or Kurt, but since it wasn’t that funny anyway it could just have been cut.
On the topic of a Rachel & Kurt in NYC spinoff (has one been proposed or is it just being kicked around in this thread?), I think it could actually work if it was aimed at a more adult crowd. There’d still be plenty of room for music and comedy, but it would be interesting seeing them try and make it.
Since part of it would be following a gay kid from small town Ohio to a place that has an enormous gay community it might work best on Showtime or HBO as there’d quite probably be lots and lots of sex for a season.
Well it’s normal for everyone to come back next year when they’re all in the same grade (class of 2012). Next year will probally feature a win at Nationals (or at least a placing). Season 4 will feature everything starting over with a new cohort of students.
I think Colfer’s going through (or finishing up) a delayed puberty. He’s definately looking more masculine & adult this season (as opposed to everyone else who looks exactly the same. Sam & Mercedes probally just want to avoid all the gossip & drama that goes along with in-group relationships as long as possible.
Doesn’t this mean she got the fake tickets for free? :dubious: Unless of course she forked over cash when her credit card didn’t go through.
But, but, you’re all missing the important question: will their babies be Asian, too?
Agree with the rest that this was a pretty weak episode, and that original songs need to go away. Not sure I have a ton more to say than that; everything was predictable and nothing really stood out too much.
AFAIK no such show has been proposed, it’s just something that popped into my head when Rachel said she wanted to go to college in New York and Kurt said that he and Blaine did too. “I’d watch that show!”
I’d watch it with or without Blaine, in fact. I’ve found Darren Criss very entertaining as a singer, but I’m less sure of his acting – at least as far as television goes. He seems rather stagey, but he’s been given so little to do in terms of non-singing scenes I’m withholding judgment.
I would also watch a show about Santana living in Tribeca.
I’m going to watch the whole thing again just to see the Love and Happiness Coffee Shop scene at the end. I could stare at Blaine staring at Kurt all day long.
Uh, while I’m certainly not a member of the Quinn fan club and won’t defend any of the rest of this, she was NOT “screwing around” with Puck. In fact, she slept with him ONCE, in a situation was that had some very uncomfortable date-rapey vibes to me (he “got her drunk” on wine coolers, a charge he does not deny when she say that’s the only reason she slept with him.)
Now, she DID after that pretend that Finn was the father while feeling out if Puck was relationship/daddy material, granted. But it’s over the top to imply she was getting laid regularly by Puck while keeping Finn on the hook. As far as we’ve been shown/told, she’s had sex exactly once, same as Finn has.
And when we flashed back to the actual sex scene Quinn was as at least as alert & aware as Puck was. She’s just saying “he got me drunk” to avoid taking responsibility for her own actions and garner sympathy. And even if she was drunk it was her own fault her judgement was impared; it’s not like Puck slipped something in her drink. It wasn’t rape by a long shot.
Yes, it was unbelievable that Rachel thought that “Cats” was still running and bought the fake tickets. But I also found it unbelievable that Rachel wanted to see “Cats” in the first place. Really? She’s in New York and that’s her play of choice?
Than again, if she’s all hung up on Finn, her tastes can be described as “bland”.
I dunno how I feel about a Kurt/Rachel spin-off . . . they both seem so similar to me. Lots of drama and over-the-top reactions to mundane things. Especially from Rachel. Sometimes I think that girl really thinks the whole world is a stage. Everything she says is just so rushed and breathy and dramatic.
Would love to see Brittany and Santana living together in NYC, though. What do you guys think of the chemistry between those two? I feel like they are squarely “friends” without much sexual or romantic chemistry (even though they were sleeping together earlier), but my friend thinks that their friendship could easily evolve into romance.
