If you’re talking about the current season, there are two in-universe reasons why we wouldn’t have seen him since “Swan Song”:
1) New Directions hasn’t been in the choir room much since they were disqualified at Sectionals. They only returned to being a competitive group and regained choir room privileges two episodes back, and IIRC the only song since then that called for piano was performed by a character/actor (Blaine/Darren Criss) who can play the piano for himself.
He made it clear in “Swan Song” that he hates the glee club. I doubt we’ve seen the last of Brad the Piano Man, but after his outburst I’m not surprised he wasn’t in a hurry to get back to playing the piano for New Directions.
Just finished watching Season 2, episodes 15 & 16, and I think these may be my favorite episodes so far. Two scenes in particular really impressed me.
In episode 15, Blaine convinces Kurt’s dad to have “the talk” with him. That scene really resonated with me, just the awkwardness of how Kurt’s dad must have been feeling. It left me wondering how I would have handled that situation in Kurt’s father’s place. I haven’t looked it up, but I’m guessing I’m older than the actor playing Kurt’s father, or at least older than the character. Alas, I’ve never married and have no children, so it’s not something I’ve had to go through. But I mentioned earlier in the thread:
Anyway, episode 16, “Original Songs”: I really liked the scene with Quinn and Rachel, where, despite knowing that Quinn was trying to be manipulative for her own purposes, I felt the scene was really honest. Because Quinn rightly pointed out that she and Finn are probably going to end up just working jobs, but Rachel is talented enough that she belongs somewhere she can put her talent to good use and be successful.
Aside from the actual plot of the show, I’ve been interested in the actress who plays Brittney (or however it’s spelled). I’ve been tempted to compare her to Christina Applegate in Married With Children, i.e. “It takes a great, smart actress to play a character so stupid”, but I’m going to need a couple more seasons to decide whether this actress meets that criteria. Though she’s obviously talented as a dancer, and sings well enough.
I’m also liking Gwyneth Paltrow the more I see her on this show. I haven’t seen all of her movies, but the ones I have seen have had her playing “mousy” characters. So it’s nice to see her playing a “confident” role.
IIRC, either the actor playing Kurt’s father Burt (Mike O’Malley) mentioned in an interview that he heard from a lot of straight adult guys who watch the show that his character made them really think about their attitudes about homosexuality, how they’d feel if they had a gay son, and whether they’d handle it as well as his character has. I think it is interesting that Burt is portrayed as a pretty traditional blue collar guy – not that different from, say, Dan on Roseanne.
Her name is Heather Morris, and she was a professional dancer who was just starting to get into acting when she was cast on Glee. She had worked with their choreographer before and was actually initially hired to help teach everyone the “Single Ladies” dance (she’d been a backup dancer for Beyonce), but they still needed another cheerleader to be one of Quinn’s sidekicks and she landed the role. Her role was reportedly expanded when the writers saw how good her comic delivery was.
Thinking back to the first season of Glee, it is kind of amazing how many characters who started out as background players who only occasionally got a line went on to become pretty important characters: Santana, Brittany, Mike Chang, Dave Karofsky, and Lauren Zizes.
Heh. One of my biggest laughs came early in Season 1 where the Glee kids were drawing names randomly to choose duet partners or something. Tina drew Mike’s name, and instead of reading his name aloud she referred to him as “Other Asian”. I was actually not sure if I’d even heard his name up to that point.
