Glen Campbell has died

He was 81.

:smack:

Too bad you can’t edit titles. I should have made the thread title ‘The Wichita Lineman is now off the line.’

Much respect. Thanks Mr. Campbell.

R.I.P., sir. Thank you for sharing your talents.
ETA: I love his version of Mason Williams’ Classical Gas.

Did he go to heaven or Galveston?

Incredible talent. I only came to appreciate him well after the fact, but am glad for it, and for his guitar playing.

He stopped in at Galveston on his way to Iowa.

“This isn’t heaven. It’s Iowa.” (Field of Dreams (1989))

I loved his voice, his playing, and his TV show. RIP.

Maybe if you ask a Mod…

I was never a country music fan. Growing up in San Diego, ‘I listen[ed] to Fun-Loving KCBQ!’ then, a rock & roll station. But I was aware of Campbell’s music because it crossed over onto the frequency I frequented. And The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour was on when I was a child.

If a mod wants to change it, I wouldn’t mind. If a mod doesn’t want to change it, I’m fine with that too.

Saw him once on the Carson show. He said he had a joke but he probably shouldn’t tell it. Carson told him to go ahead and if was that bad they’d just bleep it out. He told the joke and they censored the PUNCHLINE! You know that at that moment that what you were thinking about the NBC censor was much worse than ANYTHING that would going to come out of Glen Campbell’s mouth. (Finally heard the rest of the joke years later. A poor family asked their kid what he wanted for Christmas. He said something he could wear and something he could play with. They only had enough for one present so they got him a pair of pants with the pocket linings cut out.)

No longer shackled by forgotten words and bonds.

I saw that episode. (Can’t remember what channel… Decades?) Thanks for the punch line.

It reminds me of when I was ten. My parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I told them I want a watch. So they let me.

.

I guess he’s gone, gone, gone. :frowning:

RIP. I hate that f—ing disease.

Glen had an amazing career. First as a very respected studio musician. I highly recommend the documentary, The Wrecking Crew which reunited the LA studio musicians and captured their memories of making music in the early sixties. Glen told some incredible stories about those early days of Rock N Roll.

Many of Glen’s songs will be played for many years to come. Galveston, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Gentle on My Mind, and the Wichita Lineman have a permanent place in musical history. Crossover songs loved by pop and country music fans.

Glen is one the artists that inspired me to learn how to play guitar in high school. He always made it seem so effortless.

Thank you Glen for filling my entire life with your wonderful music.

RIP

:frowning: A huge talent, great singer and fantastic guitarist. RIP Glen.

Adios.

Even when you know it’s coming, death is so hard when it hits.

He didn’t have a song I disliked.:(:(:frowning:

Good Bye, Sir. We knew when a Glen Campbell single came in to put it in rotation immediately. It was gonna be a hit. Fantastic musician.
