Since no one else has started a thread (or maybe Chronos did a couple days ago and I didn’t notice), I figured I would add one for nonplayers and dead people to discuss, criticize, and laugh at the players in the International Mafia thread.
Active players in the International Mafia thread, please do not read. Kthxbye.
I remember playing random mafia as scum; I defended peeker pretty hard, accused the people who voted for him of being scum, et cetera. It was awesome. I think we only had one scum vote, along with five or six Townies, for him.
I think Mahaloth is looking pretty scummy among the New Zealanders. No idea about London.
Sub apparently missed Natlaw’s claim on the previous page, which was also completely colorless. Also, metagamey, but in my previous game modded by sach, the PMs were very terse.
Don’t you just hate when you get lynched as scum for something you would have said if you were town as well? Awesome detective skill was not much more than unvoting a mason and voting the next person who said something that wasn’t 100% neutral.
As I said in the game going with ‘plan’ for color instead of ‘motivations’ was a bad decision. And leason learned not to be to direct on Day one and peeker is usually a mason ;).
On the split setup: the not-posting-at-all at Night was a bit of surprise. I think the setup favors town abit more but that might be biased because I’m scum. Reason why is because in each sub game town has it’s own unspoiled thread helping them.
Yes, but in that unspoiled thread there scum looking to sow confusion. The big advantage of a real unspoiled thread – and one of the big reasons why it needs to be off-limits to players – is that you can be reasonably confident that everybody in the unspoiled is offering honest opinions.
I’m following the current Mafia game and it is my first experience with this type of game online. I’ve played Mafia with cards, but only 14 people. I didn’t realize it had such a coordinated online presence. I have read all the Mafia background threads, and have also read the Flying Cow of Doom wiki, and I have a question or two that I couldn’t find in any places.
When someone mentions “color/colour”, are they talking about the background story and such? So, for example, in post #250 of the International Mafia game (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=13246541&postcount=250), is the encrypted message that sachertorte put in just part of the color/colour?
Also, if someone puts “NETA” (which means “Not Edited to Add”) in a post, does that mean that the person simply added text to the end of his/her post and didn’t edit any of the previous paragraphs in that post?
Basically, yeah. The background story, or the text that relates the background story, so people will refer to the “color” in people’s role PMs (and there was some controversy about the lack of color in the quoted role PMs and whether that signified anything).
As a matter of courtesy to the mod (or sometimes this is required by the mod), people when quoting posts in which a vote is made will remove the color tags around the vote. This is referred to as bleaching.
(The color tags are usually required for votes to make it easier for the mod to see if a vote has been cast).
Edited to Add: NETA is for thoughts that you would have added to or corrected in the immediately previous post if you were allowed to edit. I don’t remember if editing is technically allowed in this game, but regardless it is frowned upon as it can be used to eliminate slips or communicate secretly among scum.
