Trying to enroll he and I for an international trip later this year. Paid our fee, I got my ok right away (ok to schedule an appointment), nothing has come thru for him. Sadly, he has a very common name. I keep trying to check on his account, but for a week now, maybe more, the website does not connect. Email address & password verified, then nothing. A blank vortex. Anyone had this happen, and who has any ideas of how I can connect with someone anyone.
What URL are you going to? I just logged on to my account.
That’s the one, it just gives me loading…
The site worked for me yesterday evening and the userid was my email address. So I don’t see how a common name should be an issue.
OK, the problem was my laptop. Thanks.
The comment about common name applies to the time it’s been taking for this to be approved. We have the same issue with firearm background checks.
And to add to this query, (if I am allowed), how long did it take you to get your Global Entry approval so you could set your appointment. My last name is not common, and I have had 2 other last names (female) but I got approved to set an appointment in 10 days. His last name is very common, and we’re at 6 weeks plus now, of waiting to hear something.
The whole system is still in chaos. I suspect that if anything kicks it out for manual review by a human, it could be quite delayed.
When I applied for Global Entry, I received email messages from them offering to conduct the interview after returning from an international trip, at any of several airports. I didn’t realize until receiving several of these messages that they were telling me that I was approved and just had to go to the CBP website to schedule the interview. So I could have had Global Entry (and TSA Precheck) a couple of months earlier.
Sorry for bumping this old thread, but the system is still in chaos. Not worth the effort unless you travel internationally A LOT. You cannot get interviews. At all. The first Monday of each month you have to check what is available and be able to travel. The expected wait time is 4-6 months…or so they say. We are at 6 months with no relief in site. You can interview when you get back from international travel if you are lucky enough to have a layover that allows it. My wife has flown internationally twice and it hasn’t worked out. Not worth the unrefundable money expenditure.
It was a pain getting our passports renewed, but at least it eventually happened. I don’t see us ever getting these interviews done.
we eventually gave up. He has a very common name and we had enough getting our known traveler renewed.
I’m lucky in that my last Nexus renewals were 2019, so we had our renewals done late 2018 and the next one is not until 2024.
My parents put in their renewals in spring 2020. After years, the renewals just showed up about 3 months ago fir both of them. This included my dad’s, and he died in Sept 2020.
I have an unusual name, and when i first got global entry (before the pandemic) it took months before i was approved. I actually applied to Nexus, but both of my planned trips to Canada happened before i was approved, and i ended up “upgrading” to global entry because that was cheaper than a special trip to Canada just to interview.
So i don’t think it’s just about common names.
I renewed during the pandemic, and was relieved that they did it automatically, nearly immediately after i applied, and i didn’t have to arrange interviews and such. (Nor wait, because i think the system was broken then, too.)
We got GE right at the start of COVID; the airport where we had our interview was nearly empty. It’s been great for us on several international flights since then and TSA Pre-Check has been an added benefit for our domestic flights.
We got our confirmation of approval on the drive home from the interview.
Ive been waiting for months for a NEXUS approval to interview, which I foolishly prioritized over renewing my GE, thinking 8 months would be enough time.
Maybe it’s just Nexus that’s impossibly slow? That’s about when i gave up and got global entry. Maybe it has been 5 or 6 months. I still waited a while for approval, but at least i could go to a nearby airport for my interview, I’ve i was finally approved.
The only airports with any open interview slots are in AZ, TX, and NY. It’s been this way for awhile. We’ve even thought of taking a vacation to Nogales, AZ.
Oh wow. Back when i did this, i waited several weeks for an interview, but i was able to schedule one. And i later learned that i could have done a same-day interview at O’Hare.
I read a “tips” website on Global Entry and they said to check the first Monday of every month since that is when they release new appointments. Hot DAMN! We have interviews in August and they correspond with a vacation so we don’t even have to take a special trip. Looks like it might not be wasted money.
I applied online about a week ago, and got my conditional approval two days later. The closest available appointment was in Miami, which is about an hour drive for me. I was scheduled for late July. On June 1st I checked again, and was able to get an August 1st appointment in Fort Lauderdale - the office there is about 15 minutes away from me.
Maybe I just live in a convenient area.
I’ve bee waiting 4 months for conditional approval for NEXUS.
