Was going back through some of the older Ted talks I have watched in the past, and I came across this one and watched it again. I remember when I originally saw it I wanted to start a debate on the subject, but sadly I didn’t have the time. I don’t want to really start a debate this time for similar reasons, but thought I’d share it here for anyone interested. The video, which IMHO is very moving, hinges around the concept that while a lot has been done wrt global poverty in the last 50 or 100 years, we need to focus more on addressing violence in the lives of the poor. Without addressing that we’ve kind of covered all the low hanging fruit and won’t really progress further in trying to combat global poverty. I think it’s a very compelling case, personally. At any rate, watch the video if you haven’t already seen it.
