Global warming question

I was reading comments on an AOL news story yesterday where someone claimed that several other planets in our solar system are also experiencing warming across their globes, just like Earth. Is there any truth to this?

One of the outer gas giants, Neptune is moving into spring, so it’s getting warmer there.

Ice melted or sublimed at the south pole of Mars last southern summer. Some have made much climactic hay over this fact, despite it being normal behavior. We’ve only a couple rovers and a satellite or three with which to measure martian climate, and those for only a few years. Anything anyone says about martian climate is thus highly suspect.

Mars:

Mars warming. Good luck trying to convince the whackos.

Care to clarify who you mean by “the whackos?”

Thanks for the link. Apparently the last few months have been quite cold on the Earth. If this keeps up, it will be interesting to see if Mars follows suit.

Because those small corollary data points will be enough to tell what exactly?

You mean the southern hemisphere of Neptune is moving into spring. The northern hemisphere is moving into autumn. It’s getting colder there. It’s just that we can’t see much of that hemisphere, since it’s tilted away from us. We can mainly see the southern hemisphere, so that’s what they’re measuring.

If you compare the output of the sun to earth over the same period, there’s no obvious relationship.

Of course, that’s dependent on having trust in any peer reviewed scientific data at all.

Sorry, but I think we’re straying into debate territory. I’d be interested to discuss what significance – if any – a simultaneous shift to cooling on both Earth and other planets would have if this thread gets moved to Debates.

I have some thoughts on this subject too, but again, I think I will wait until this thread gets moved.

Well, no offense, but your post didn’t add any ‘General Questions’ response at all; it was a thank you and a hint at a debatable position. If you didn’t want to talk about it in GQ you shouldn’t have brought it up.
