Glossary Of SDMB Terms

From what I understand (he was before my time), there is a lot of controversy about Wally, including whether he actually died or not. The “Wally tries cybersex” thread, also, was apparently plagiarized.

The guy is kind of a taboo subject, I think.

The Wally smilie (a winkie with a “Putz!” balloon) has been ruled as too rude for most forums. It’s perfectly OK for The BBQ Pit, where rudeness is routine.

Winter of Our Missed Content was originally suggested by widdershins in the thread [post=1942494]Literary types! Name the Straight-Dope-astrophe![/post]

Don’t forget angry…hungry - two of the three supposed words in the English language that end in -gry and overall meant to refer to the type of stupid questions infesting emails that Dopers outgrew about 30 seconds after they discovered the Internet.

When you see it mentioned, assume that someone will be taken to The Pit.

There, there, Poly, mortification is entirely unnecessary. Just permanently place that paragraph at the bottom of your posting field. Now it’s another SDMB Tradition!

Apocryphally?

P.S. I miss Smashie.

Rio by Duran Duran is our latest entry. It still cracks me up.

Occasionally, you’ll see a reference to “All your [‘base’ or something else] are belong to us.” This is originally a line from a poorly-translated Sega game called Zero Wing, but then the line took on a life of it’s own.
Ah, the wide, wacky world of catch-phrases…

How come Gotcha Ya isn’t mentioned in this thread?

Apocryphally.

It’s not well known that the hamsters are all Syrian Orthodox, hence very familiar with the Apocrypha.

:stuck_out_tongue:

(Mess with my word usage, will you!  )

Apocryphallic: A penis so big it is the sign of the end of the second coming.

That probably deserves the newest SDMB cliché: Penis ensued!

Tell me, Shirley, have you ever considered getting a job writing spam e-mails? :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW, FYI: NIFSTD has been shut down. If a new need (the current unpleasentness stuff) for a haven for Sci-Fi Doper geeks comes up, I might reopen, but with some major changes. Thanks for the plug, tho, elmwood!

For the longest time I couldn’t figure out what YMMV meant. Assuming that old age was my handicap, I mentally shrugged and chalked it up to the early stages of The Great Fog. Then one day it hit me: You Make Me Vomit.

Sounded appropriate to me.

My husband was the one to point out that it’s Your Mileage May Vary.

Hey, he has his interpretation; I have mine. (YMMV)

Ask TwoFlowers.

I still don’t want to talk about it.

Can I come in and play?

But wait… there’s more!

Earliest reference I can find to the subject is post 5 of this thread. Apparently, goat felching is a subject that arises independently in disparate circumstances – a phenomenon that I find more than a little disturbing.

It may be so understood by most as to be overlooked in a thread of SDMB definitions, but can anyone put forth a clear meaning for whoosh(ed)?

When a post has obviously gone right over another poster’s head. Usually in re someone who posts a serious (often outraged) reply to a joke.

I coulda sworn that goat-felching dated back to '99. I seem to recall the original usage being in the Pit, with the OP inviting whoever the heck he was complaining about to go felch a dead goat.
