Our insurance is making us change glucose meters. Our options are either Accu-Chek (Aviva Plus or Nano) or OneTouch (Ultra2, UltraMini, or Verio IQ). Does anyone have any recommendations?
OneTouch Ultra2 works fine for me. Seems accurate, doesn’t require much blood, takes about five seconds to test. I have more of a problem with the lancing devices; I use one I bought at Walgreens (the one that came with it lost a fight with the floor one day). Anyway, the one from OneTouch hurt like hell to use, the one from Walgreens hardly hurts at all.
I had the OneTouch UltraMini in the past and now have the Accu-Check Aviva Plus. I found the OneTouch hurt less (as in not really at all) and the Accu-Check stings for minutes after testing. I also found the lancets for the OneTouch last longer (more pokes before tossing).
I’ve got a Verio IQ, but it’s the only one I’ve used. Seems fine to me.
BTW, the OneTouch lancing devices come with “Fine” lances, but there is an “Extra Fine” size available that hurts much less.
Lances, I use the Accu-Chek Multiclix. It hurts WAY less than the more manual lancers.
Other than that, I have to use the meter built into my pump, so I don’t get much of a choice. That said, if I did have a choice, I’d go with the one that takes the least amount of blood. I did definitely see a difference when they changed the strips my meter used and I could get a away with a really small drop. MUCH better!
Flip a coin, or choose the prettiest. Those are all excellent meters with good reliability, equivalent accuracy and very low sample size and test strips cost just about the same (in case your coverage for strips is stingy or you drop a bunch and need to get some out of pocket before they’ll send you more.) I really see nothing to recommend one over another except for personal preference.
