Glycemic load question-- please help! :)

Hi,

I’m trying to design a diet that contains extremely low glycemic load foods. The only thing is that this is NOT a weight-loss diet; it is only about sticking to low to low-medium GL foods. I’m kind of thinking of a reasonably modified version of the ketogenic diet used for epilepsy. There is definitely some evidence suggesting that a low glycemic load diet could help my medical condition. But there’s also good evidence that shows going all the way to the ketogenic diet could actually aggravate some aspects of it.

So first of all, could anyone recommend the best list of low glycemic load foods? Online, or in a journal, or in a book?

But second of all, the thing is that this is really not supposed to be particularly a weight-loss diet, and all the information I’ve found so far is based around that idea. Although I certainly don’t want to go to the 80% fat level of a lot of ketogenic diets, I am not interested in low-fat this and low-fat that. Are there any resources that just talk about glycemic load without dragging in weight loss?

Thanks so much to all of you,

Anise.

Eat more than the weight loss sites are suggesting, and shoot for about 30% of your calories from fat. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables.

The South Beach Diet books have a glycemic index list for a lot of foods.

This site has a database with both index and load.

This is a very cookbook I use. It has a glycemic index listing and rates each recipe hi, medium, low or very low GI.

I just feel better eating these types of foods and her cookbook has some very good recipes.
