Gmail has increased to 2 gig, and is actually increasing storage by a small amount continuously. Check the home page to see the counter increasing.
If there’s anybody left on the planet who’d like an invite who hasn’t got one already, I have 50 of 'em. Email me at revtim (at) gmail (dot) com, with an appropriate subject line.
Gmail is a free mail account from Google. It’s currently still in beta according to Google, but I never had any problems with it. It has a current storage limit of about 2GB (compare to 2MB for a free hotmail account) and that is still growing. The only way you can get a gmail account is by invitation from someone who already has one, that’s why revtim and I are saying: email us and we’ll send you an invitation.
Gmail is fully POP capable, so you can just use your normal email client, or you can access it via the web just like hotmail. You can also search your emails, and with 2GB of storage you can basically save all your emails in your gmail account almost indefinitely.
Yeah. I suspect when they finally go out beta and anybody can just sign up without an invite, there won’t be a huge increase in users. Almost everybody who wants one can get one with pretty minimal effort.
Gmail hasn’t been very exclusive for a long time now. If you aren’t in already, easiest way is to check http://isnoop.net/gmail/ and get as many invites as you like. They have hundreds of thousands of those.
The really cool thing is Gmail Drive, which turns your Gmail account into a virtual drive on your computer. When you store a file there, it sends that file as an email with an attachment. If you want to retrieve it, it just looks like a normal file (no email), and you simply click on the icon like you would for something stored locally.
BTW, the Gmail people have hinted that they are not going to stop at two gigabytes, and will continue increasing it in line with demand.
