I’m reading through the Da Vinci Code and it brings up some theories of Jesus and Mary.
I read Cecil’s article on Jesus and Mary being lovers…
…Some things that I’d like to know though.
There is mention of some Gospels not in the Bible like Gospel of Mary, Gospel of Thomas, and a few others. Dan Brown states there are over 80 documents that are like the gospels above.
When are these gospels dated? What were the reasons not to include them in the Bible? Are these documents full or just pieces here and there.
Why aren’t these gospels popular in society? Why are they still pretty much unknown to people?
See here . This is my thread (currently active) in GD about whether or not Jesus was married. There are links and discussions about the Gnostic Gospels, the Gospel of Mary and Thomas…All linked to the Da Vinci Code assertions in one way or another.
I’ve read the Sayings Gospel of Thomas (which is what most people mean when they refer to “Gospel of Thomas”–there’s a completely different one around, actually), and I just don’t see how it can be construed as a Gnostic document. It goes off on odd little tangents now and again, but it’s got no more of the hallmarks of Gnosticism than do the Canonical Gospels, as far as I can tell.
