Go Away, Jesse Jackson!

I’m not sure where this should go, here, GQ, GD, IMHO, or even MPSIMS. So I’ll start here and work with it as it goes. (Mods: Feel free to move it to whereever it should be.)

Dear Mr Jackson.
Why? Isn’t it just possible that the poor kid did hang himself without any help? They do that ya know. I had a friend try to burn himself to death once. But anyway…
Dude… Go away. We don’t need you stirring up trouble. Like the last time one of ya’ll came down here, only go get his ass handed to him when 3 seperate autopsies proved the kid hung himself in jail without any help! Ya’ll tried arguing with Walter Reed Army Hospital, University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the county corner, claiming all were covering up the kids “actual” death.
Yes, Yes… I know he is a black kid in the south. Believe it or not, we’ve learned how to get along in the 30+ years since they escoring black students into schools with the 101st airborne and their fixed bayonets into schools. Times change, we aren’t all racists anymore, Jessie. Their might be a few diehards around, but you can find those anywhere. Can’t you at least face the fact that the kid might just have killed himself without any help?

Who, pray, is “y’all?”

If you want to rant about Jesse, let’s get into why the U.S. sent “Mr. Photo-Op” to mediate in Sierra Leone. He (and the U.S. & Brits) sold out to the rebel forces (giving them amnesty from war crimes prosecution), thereby laying the ground for another couple thousand people to have limbs cut off by 13-year-olds.

Why would anyone assume that he is a qualified mediator in African civil wars?

Oh, and I’m with Andros. Whatcha mean by “y’all”?

My husband and I were watching Jesse on TV the other day and hubby asked me if I had ever heard of Jackson’s Great Lie. Huh? I replied, and he said that when Jackson was first coming into the media spotlight, he claimed that Martin Luther King had died in his arms and told him to carry on, keep up the fight, etc. It came out later, hubby said, that Jackson had been 500 miles away when King was shot. Jackson backtracked at that point, and said that King had come to him in a dream, and in his dream died in Jackson’s arms.

Can anyone confirm this?

Lissa,

I don’t know if Jackson was with King at the time he was assassinated, but I found a photo of them together the day before. There may be further information on this site if you’re interested.

King and Jackson

The next photo in the series is the famous photo of the aides pointing in the direction the shots were thought to have come from, but it’s less clear.

Ya’ll, in this case, are those civil rights people, who invariably swarm when there is a case like this. I suppose I’m just getting cynical upon having seen to much of this type of shit turn out to be politics these days.
I understand they might still be concerned that there are still racists in the South, and that they feel the need to personally show up and make a stand every time something funny happens. Fine. I can understand showing concern. I’m getting tired of Jessie’s media circus. I mean, every time a black kid has something bad happen to him, he rushes to their side. What ever happened to those kids up in Illinois? I know Jackson backed off when one was supposedly already expelled for having a bad record.

sigh I’m just tired of it. I’m sorry it all happened. It’s hard for people who didn’t live through the era to understand, movies don’t get it right. I was born in 1968, so thankfully I didn’t have to live through that, just the aftereffects.

I had never heard the “500 miles away” story before. Jackson did fly back to Chicago, that same night, after the shooting. Jackson was criticized for flying to Chicago without changing his bloodstained shirt. Several people (back in the 1970’s) expressed the idea that, rather than hurrying back to Chicago in order to help calm people, Jackson deliberately did not change his shirt so that he could use it to lay claim to a greater closeness to King.

I don’t know enough details about “the shirt” to have a valid opinion.

However, this site puts Jackson at the motel with King at the time of the shooting:
Memphis Still Struggles With King Slaying

Ok, chalk it up to Urban Legend, chalk it up to bits of things I heard on TV or chalk it up to I really don’t have the time nor the inclination to go do a search on this jagwad (don’t get me even started on Jesse - it’s a really sore subject with me) but I heard that he was not with King when he died, but rather, wiped the blood that was spilled on to his coat afterwards and only claimed to have been right there.

Funny this should be brought up - this was JUST (seriously) mentioned on TV here.

Oh, all right - I’ll go do a search.

As for the kids in Decatur, I believe they ended up with the punishment originally given to them, and Jesse was barred from the graduation.
