Go back to where you came from you disgusting maggots!!!

I was going to stay out of this, da’ cook, but 13-year-olds really shouldn’t call out people who have graduated from high school (aren’t you in college, iampunha?) and accuse them of a lack of knowledge in academic subjects.

It makes you look foolish. And does your mother know you use words like “shit” when you’re on the computer?

Why can’t you play nice?

Why do I feel like an extra in the crowd scene at the end of Braveheart?

I am a junior in college, LindyHopper, yes. And, just for what it’s worth, no longer a teenager.[sub]woohoo![/sub]

In fact, I have class in roughly 15 minutes. English 332.

[sub]Must get food so I don’t collapse mid-film.[/sub]

Films in English class–pshaw! Kids these days. Can’t even read the books.

Jes’ kiddin’; Dr. LindyHopper has been known to show the odd film or two in her history classes. Whatcha watchin’?

Book? Whatchu talkin’ 'bout, Willis?

El Mariachi is the film. And if I recall correctly I’ve already seen it. I dunno if I’m even going to go. I can watch it at a more convenient time for me (like, say, not now).

OK, is this a film class? Because El Mariachi’s not even in English. It’s in Spanish with English subtitles. Good flick, though. Best $5000 ever spent on making a movie.

[sub]You know, if we hijack this thread far enough, maybe Lynn, Alpha, or John will close it![/sub]

The IMBD says it was $7K, just FTR. My Film teacher agreed with that.

Subtitles are annoying, but even more annoying is bad dubbing. That’s one reason I didn’t really get into Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

$5K, $7K, what’s the difference. Damn fine bit of ultra-low-budget moviemaking. And actually, I like subtitles. If they’re done skillfully enough (no white letters on a white background), I stop consciously noticing them after 15 minutes or so.

Bad dubbing is indeed annoying, but didn’t CT, HD have subtitles? Or am I totally misremembering?

[sub]Gosh, this is fun! And good for the ol’ post count![/sub]

It did indeed have subtitles. The problem is that though the acting may have been superb, I couldn’t tell because I didn’t know when the characters were saying various things. It’s like . . . the way the text was presented and the way they were saying it, I have to think sometimes I saw ABC and it was BCA. That’s one reason I didn’t like it.

Make sense?

Damn it. I’d like to know just how in the name of Sam Goody this thread veered from Brittney Spear’s mammary glands to Chinese Cinema.

Priorities, people … priorities!!

::flashes Jack::

That better, dear?

whoa.

Duuuuuude.

pun, I’m sorry. I really meant Barry Manilow. Errr . . . Tom Jones. Errr . . . Englebert Humperdink. Don Ho.

Shit. Big Bird?

You people in the Pit never fail to amuse me:D

I don’t particularly care for any of them, really. Just so long as you don’t diss Snuffelumpagus.

Or however the Hell his name is spelled.

Hmph. You kids.

Snuffleupagus.

Aloysius Snuffleupagus, to be precise.

Um…

Actually, I’m not quite sure what you’re saying here. I mean, since Chinese and English have really nothing in common, I can understand how the dialogue and subtitles would sometimes get sort of out of sync…is that what you mean? I’m not sure what your ABC/BCA comment means.

FWIW, I don’t usually watch movies with an eye toward their cinematic greatness; that is to say, I’m rarely really paying attention to innovative technique or filmmaking style (Hitchcock being a notable exception). Plus, if the movie is in a foreign language with which I’m not familiar, I really have no reference point for whether the acting is good or not.

Eh…personal preference, I guess.

Oh, and Jack? :p:p:p

Has anyone else noticed that da’ cook hasn’t been back to this thread? Must be way past his/her bedtime.

[sub]You’re right, Jack; it’s like kicking a puppy. Bad LindyHopper. :([/sub]

Isn’t that Frankie Valli?
I could give a shit about the BritneyStreetCrew, all you have to do is change the channel and find another station to listen to.

Hey, AFAIC, you just graduated from newbie in a major way!

Haha, that’s Paul McCartney all right, Captain Amazing!

Looks like Fenris has competition…
