"Go the distance..."

Ah yes. Warm weather. Spring training has started. The Redlegs have the son of one of the members of the Big Red Machine on the roster. I just had to drag out my DVD copy of Field of Dreams. I don’t know if its art, but I like it.

Something really puzzles me, though. “The Voice”. Not that the credits don’t say who did the voice. (The credits list the Voice as “Himself”.) What puzzles me is that the movie is more than a decade old, and as near as I can tell, no one has owned up to providing the whispering vocals. This has got to be one of the best kept secrets in Hollywood.

Have any of you people heard anything? {Not like “If you build it, he will come.”) Who did the voice? My WAG: Phil Alden Robinson, the director.

Mr. Know, I like your guess, but my all time favorite part is when Shoeless says to Kevin, after Kevin says, ‘It’s YOU!’ and Shoeless replies, ‘No, Ray, it’s you’ saying that it had been the pain inside of Ray that had called his father to the field of dreams, man I love that!! The disappearing into the corn rows, when you can still hear their giggling was SO cool!

Of course, now I have to go find that movie!!

“It’s hard to avoid reading because ever wheres we go, reading is there.”

Interesting guess. I knew Phil Robinson back in college; he definitely had an announcer’s voice. Worked at a local radio station. So it’s not out of the question.

God, I haven’t thought about that movie in a long time. I love it, but I can’t bear to watch it because it brings me to tears at the end when Ray asks his dad if he wants to play catch.

I miss my dad.

“It’s only common sense,
There are no accidents 'round here.”

Got the idea to check the audio commentary on the DVD. Robinson is one of the two people giving the commentary. They don’t say who the “voice” is, but Robinson’s voice does seem to sound similar. It is, at least, pitched about the same.
