God damn stupid eBay fuckers who won't list shipping charges

I’m shopping for a relatively large item, a new keyboard. Well, new to me, anyways. I used to have a Yamaha DX-7, so I’m shopping around for something just as (or close to) fun as that old girl. Korg, Emu, Yamaha, Roland, Casio even.

Hell, I’m even looking at the 61 key boards. I’m not getting back into a band or anything, I just want to play around.

Now, being large items, shipping is going to add up. Also, I know that some people mark up shipping a bit and call it handling. That’s all okay with me.

BUT GIVE SOME KIND OF IDEA AS TO THE COST, YOU FUCKERS!!!

eBay offers this very cool link to add to your listing. It allows you/us to calculate what it will cost to ship to a certain ZIP code. Or, figure out the size and weight of the boxed item, go to UPS or USPS, either online or irl, and get an estimate. Mark up that estimate to cover your ass, I don’t care. But give me something here!

When the line says “Buyer pays all shipping costs” be damned sure you can answer my fucking e-mail with a real estimate instead of, “I’ll have to let you know after the auction is over and I get it boxed up.”

YOU STUPID SHIT!!

Answer me like that and I refuse to do business with you. If you can’t be bothered to figure it out, or at least a reasonable estimate, BEFORE you list the piece of shit, it lets me know you are a stupid stupidhead. And you’ll probably get other things wrong, too. Like sending me an SK-7 instead of a DX-7!

Come on, people. Just prepare a little before you list. It’s not that hard.

A DX-7?

What’s next? A Moog? A Mellotron? You channeling Wendy Carlos?
Try This.

That sounds more like someone who is deliberately trying to pull a scam to me, not someone who is unprepared. Perhaps they are planning to hike shipping costs excessively and don’t want to tell you?

:stuck_out_tongue:

I liked my Yamaha. It had a great feel and was very adaptable. Of course, I would a Mk II or a new Korg, but such is not my budget. The DX-7s I found were all reasonably priced. (Except for the lack of shipping, grrr!!)

I was actually searchng for a Prophet 5. Didn’t find any.

And yes, I knew a girl named Nikki…

A majority of ads on Ebay are like that. Full of crap people who don’t know what they’re doing or selling, and who can’t pack and ship. I bought a Peavey Delta Blues amp that came with new tubes rattling around in a box with no padding, in a cardboard crate held together with packing tape.

The :stuck_out_tongue: was for the girl before you, lel.

Yeah, I thought about the scam angle, too. But, I’ve run into more morons on eBay than thieves. Still, either way would be bad. A price of some sort for shipping should be mandantory, I think. (Except for certain items, like cars or whatever, but there should be some sort of guidelines protecting both parties there, too.)

I found a listing for The Lady Vanishes - The Criterion Collection.

With the picture of the above’s box.

With a listing describing the Criterion disc.

Bought it, great deal.

“Oh, sorry, it’s not a Criterion DVD. Do you want a refund? I didn’t mean to put that picture and listing in there.”
Yes I want a refund. Sure you didn’t mean to.

It would take quite a bit of stupidity not to list shipping charges. That’s just part of business.

Agreed. I weigh the items I’m selling as I write the listing and include a shipping/handling fee statement in my auction description so there will be no surprises for the buyer. Occasionally, I screw up on the amount. If the actual postage comes out higher, tough shit for me: I eat the cost. If the actual postage comes out a lot lower (happens now and then with the new zoned Priority Mail rates) I give the buyer a refund either by paypal or cash tucked in the packing slip envelope.

Hmmm…shipping cost usually depends on destination, dimensions, and weight. I think the calculator feature is a relatively new thing, and hopefully sellers will start using it more, but otherwise you can’t list the shipping cost without knowing where it’s going first. I imagine what also happens is that people don’t box the item before listing it, so they don’t know the weight or dimensions. I can kind of understand that; if you’re listing a bunch of stuff, but you don’t know if it’s all going to sell, you might not want to have to pack everything in advance. It doesn’t seem all that unreasonable to me, although I agree that they should try to accomodate you if you email them and ask for an estimate.

I’ll tell you what really sucks, though - flat rate shipping charges and so-called “handling” fees. Unacceptable. What’s funny is that these people are just shooting themselves in the foot. They probably think they’re making more money from their inordinate shipping charges, but they don’t realize how many people would have bid on their item, but passed it over because of that.
