Ahhh, but that’s where the rub comes in. Not everyone, including parents, believes your “truth” that there’s nothing wrong with being gay. And parents have every right to decide what their children are indoctrinated into. Kids shouldn’t be forced to sit and listen to people coming into the schools and promoting something that’s against their beliefs. You cannot force parents or children into believing that there’s nothing wrong with the gay lifestyle. They should be taught that violence and verbal abuse against people is wrong, I will agree. But not to try to force them to believe something is right that they believe to be wrong.
Her obtunessness feeds the deadly silence. She is a killer, after a fashion, just like everyone who helps maintain the world that kills gay teens.
And it is completely possible for a Methodist to be a fundamentalist. The denomination scaled far enough in both directions for that to be the case.

Well, you’ve convinced me - they do have every right to risk, or intentionally help to bring about, their own children’s despair, depression, and self-destruction. Because gay kids’ lives are just not as important as having your own little world-view enforced without ever allowing any points of view let in that might save them.

What I mean is, I don’t think it’s a big deal if the school has an assembly or a guest speaker on being tolerant to those who are gay/lesbian.

gobear, then I also appologize. However, what you said about rank and file Catholics, for the record, hurt my feelings. I have always respected you, and considered you a friend. BUT, to insinuate that the average Joe Catholic, by continuing to support their parish is supporting what went on-that goes beyond the pale.

Kirk-you, I am worried about. You seem EXTREMELY hostile, misanthropic and rabid beyond belief. Have you ever considered seeing a counselor or a therapist? Because you come off as an extremely angry individual who still is NOT at peace with your life. And while you may have good reason to be upset, it is extremely unhealthy to be nothing more than a simmering pot of rage.

Shoot, Fenmris, I thought you liked me. But if you think that tolerance toward gays is qualitatively different from tolerance towards Jews or Catholics or blacks or Latinos, so much so that the topic ought not to be broached without parental permission, that makes me very sad.
Well, Kirky, it was mentioned earlier in this thread, so I have to ask… do you feel the same way about programs that would teach children about guns, gun safety, and proper gun use?

Can you not just tell your children that these people are sinners, but that you must love them reguardless?
