Heh-heh…you said beat off…heh-heh.
No, this is definitely satire. As Lemur866 pointed out, he thanks Andrew Sullivan for “getting behind” him (wink, wink) in his video here. Andrew Sullivan is a very open non-reformed homosexual. Moreover, Sullivan makes it clear that he thinks the song is satire. Donnie Davies would not be praising Sullivan if Davies didn’t want his work to be perceived as satire.
Yeah, jail is a great place to go to try to rid yourself of homosexual behavior.
My vote is this guy is a satirist.
Leo: We’ll never find the perfect script!
Max: Keep looking, I tell you. We’ll …
Leo: We’ll what?
Max: I’ve found it. By god, I’ve found it!
Leo: Found it? :: peers over Max’s shoulder :: “Springtime for Phelps”?
Max: It’s perfect, I tell you!
Oh, and Elton John is listed twice. The second time he is listed as “Elton John(really gay)”.
Comedy gold.
Just because Andrew Sullivan wants to think it’s satire doesn’t make it so.
You’re hearing a wink-wink, and I’m hearing a take on “Get thee behind me, Satan”, from Matthew 16:23:
As you said yourself, Andrew Sullivan is a very open non-reformed homosexual; he symbolizes open homosexuality. So, in other words, he’s saying, “I’ve put Andrew Sullivan, i.e. homosexuality, behind me, because it is evil, like Satan, and I am glad that he, i.e. homosexuality, responded to my Christlike rebuke.” So he isn’t praising Andrew Sullivan as such, he’s just congratulating himself obliquely on having been able to put his homosexuality “behind” him.
As someone already said, you can’t make this shit up. And both websites IMO reek of gen-u-wine semi-literate clueless religious fanaticism. I’ve seen spoof religious websites before, like Landover Baptist, and they are much more polished and focused. And the satire is always quite pointed, and abundantly clear.
But the inane, disconnected ramblings here sound to me like the Real Thing. Somebody got himself a couple of domain names and a minicam, and decided to set up shop and preach the Gospel According To Him. It’s what the Internet does best–enables all the Little People to make their tinfoilhatted voices heard–but sometimes the results are less than salubrious.
On that site, the logo is the word QWEERTY spelled out in computer keyboard keys. But why do the keys have Braille dots on them?
I know you’re a sheltered Christian lady, but surely you understand why he wants Andrew behind him. There is no back door to heaven.
Actually, you can. Somebody got himself a couple of domain names and a minicam and decided to set up a decidedly tongue-in-cheek…I mean…uh…
Now I’m leaning toward satire/hoax. Here is the video where he thanks Sullivan. He is definitely *not *saying that he puts Sullivan behind him; he calls him a brilliant blogger and thanks him for his help.
I think **don’t ask **is on to something. Looks like Todd Quillen to me. Their singing voices are similar as well.
Plus, Cindy Lauper is one of the “safe bands.”
He lists Cyndi Lauper as being a safe band/artist?
Someone has missed a She-Bop or two. I think his True Colors are definitely shining through… ![]()
Hey, girls just wanna have fun, right?
He does thank Andrew Sullivan “for getting behind him”, then he briefly glances down, like he is trying not to laugh.
I have to say that after seeing this video I feel so very…extraordinary!
Or how about:
You know, now that I think about it, I’ve always thought there’s been something a bit “off” about Morrissey…but I haven’t been able to put my finger on it…
Not that he’d let you.
That’s not a finger!
I like that the Dresden Dolls wound up on the “safe bands” list and Frank Sinatra wound up on the Gay bands list.
Have you watched the video in question? This is my transcription of the portion where he mentions Sullivan:
Ostensibly, he is praising Sullivan. The look on his face is completely sincere. Yet, no matter whether you are I am right, he is acting. If I am right, he is pretending to be an anti-homosexual bigot who is so ignorant that he doesn’t realize that he is praising someone who would (were Davies being sincere) despise him. If you are right, Davies is still acting, because he is pretending to praise Sullivan as a “great Christian man” when in fact Davies thinks Sullivan is a fag whom God hates.
So, either way, he is doing some kind of sarcastic mockery. Even under your hypothesis, there is a subtle satirical element to what he is saying. The problem with your hypothesis, though, is that you would have him be a “gen-u-wine semi-literate clueless religious fanatic.” That just doesn’t seems consistent with the sort of ironic attitude required to speak the ostensibly sincere praise above while in fact believing that the object of his praise is evil.

I wonder how he feels about cast recordings?
Sorry DDG. I just read your post more closely, and I see that you think Davies is sincerely praising Andrew for putting homosexuality behind him. I don’t see how that could be, though, because Sullivan makes it clear that the music video is either sublime satire or horrifying bigotry when he links to it. There is just no way Davies could have thought that Sullivan was renouncing homosexuality. Besides, Davies doesn’t even mention Sullivan’s homosexuality in his remarks.
I wasn’t aware Cole Porter ever led a band. Have some lost recordings come to light?
-BoD, watching out for them
