God, was I drunk

I almost never drink, but I do keep some liquor in the house. Tonight, after a day of slogging through the snow, I decided a drink would be nice. So I get a bar-glass sized glass and half fill it with white rum and half soda, along with a few ice cubes. Mmmm, delicious.

Half an hour later, I was literally staggeringly drunk. That one drink hit me like a sledgehammer, and that’s never happened before. I’m recovered enough to type now, but I wondering what happened. I usually don’t add soda; maybe that caused me to quaff it down instead of sipping slowly?

A number of factors can contribute to inebriation. It all depends on how tired you were; how much alcohol you were having; how quickly you drank it; how much food you had before, during, and after; how much you weigh; your gender; and probably some other factors I can’t think of.

Forgive my ignorance, but how many ounces are in a bar glass? Are we talking a pint, a highball glass, what? It sounds like you were pretty tired, and you did drink it pretty fast …

In my own experience, if I haven’t drank (drunk?) in a few months, and I’m tired and hungry, I can be tipsy after a pint. (Oh, the shame, the shame…) OTOH, if I’ve been drinking regularly, and I’m alert and full, it can take me four or six before I feel anything. YMWV. (Your Mileage Will Vary.)

StephenG – gee, talk about talking a drunk into sobriety! Sheesh! Were you TRYING to be boring?!

Anyway, I personally think you are a booze hound and a booze slut and you should seek some booze therapy. Actually, I just used “booze” in a scrabble game and love that word. Okay, back to regular programing!

You can’t really have been drunk cos peace hasn’t accused you of being drunk yet - you were just imagining it : m’kay?

Look at it this way, at least you’re better now. I’m seriously thinking of dragging that bottle of kahlua out of the cupboard. At least you had a semi good reason to drink, I’m just depressed. Oh well.

Lumpy, you are going to be an absolute hoot to be around New Year’s Eve. That’s all I’m going to say.

And you might want to read the thread about 90% alcohol - but then again you might not want to…

So what did you say you are doing on NYE? :o

Hi, Byz and the rest of y’all. No, I’m not usually that boring! Chalk it up to being stuck at home on the birthday where I turn legal (not that it’s a big deal, really, but…). I’ll be more interesting next time, I promise.

[sub]Oh, and you should know that you can’t actually talk a drunk into sobriety … Kidding! :D[/sub]

Carbonation also gets you drunker faster  champagne and wine coolers are infamous for how fast they get into you system, regardless of alcohol content.
