How many drinks

…does it take to get you drunk? I haven’t been drinking for very long, and the most I’ve ever had at one time was about four bottles of beer, but I wasn’t even the slightest bit tipsy. I’m a fairly big dude at about 230lbs, but I figure I’m gonna have down ungodly amounts of the stuff in order to get plastered.

What a dilemma.

A 1.18L bottle at about 7% is enough to give me a healthy buzz (I weight about 250). I only really get plastered about once a year, but the last time (New Years) it took 3 bottles of Champaign and an uncertain number of bottles of beer throughout the evening. I was sick the next day with a rather nasty hangover. My advice? When drunk remember one thing (actually two): drink lots of water it helps prevent a hangover, and, when drunk there is no such thing as a good idea. I mean sure at the time it seemed like a good idea to handcuff your friend to a sheep, but in the cold light of dawn remembering where you left the key is mighty difficult.

LMAO! I don’t know if it is the lack of sleep or what, but the mental image this sentence just gave me is deeply disturbing…

Oh crap, I’m going to either impress some people here, or make some people think very differently about me.
Now, I’m not a big drinker, but when I do drink I do it right (meaning “right soused”). If I’m looking to get drunk, beer is of no good to me. I need to drink a lot fast to even get tipsy.
A mickey of Jack Daniels will put me past the buzz point. But, for me to get good and drunk, I might drink as much as a 26 of Irish Whiskey (Jamieson’s, to be exact). Now, you might be wondering if that is straight. Well, pretty much. It’s damn close to straight. While I went to the bathroom at one party, a friend smelled my mix. It burned their nostrils.
Now, I’m not exaclty proud of this. Well, what the heck, sure I am. I’ve got a very high tolerance for alcohol. But, like I said, I don’t drink very often at all, so I rarely show it off.

For me, it varies. I’ve become drunk rather easily, and I’ve also drank all night without getting drunk.

All I can say is that it’s never a good idea to drink a 40 oz bottle of vodka within 45 minutes, and the words “I just drank my 26th Rye and Coke” always lead to trouble.

Note for those newbie drinkers: If you eat before you drink, the alcohol won’t hit you as strongly…

When I was in the AF I could down a twelve pack and catch a little buzz. Now it’s a lot less. Like 5 or 6 beers to get a heavy buzz on. Or about 3 of those Big O’s they got here in Waco…

I’m a lightweight. Three 16-oz draft ciders got me rather tipsy a couple of weeks ago.

It depends on whether I’ve eaten recently and if I did, how much I ate. One beer can get me buzzed if I drink it on an empty stomach, but if I’ve just consumed half a pizza or something, it can take as much as a six-pack.

I can’t remember. Ask the people who came to the SD BBQ.

Hell, one or two beers gets me to the point where I’ve got to be careful of keeping my balance.
Surprise any Houston dopers?

Fortunately, it wears off just as quickly.

I’m a fairly heavy drinker, half a dozen 500ml cans of Carlsberg Special(9.0%) & 4 or 5 very large glasses of scotch are a standard evening for me.
I’m not counting the 3 or 4 standard lagers(4.0%), their just for variety.

Well if you stop off for a beer after donating a pint of blood, it’ll take about half as mush as it usualy does.

one more donation for will make 4 GALLONS:eek:

One more donation for me will make four gallons. That last post didn’t make much sense when I reread it. I doubt if this clears it up much tho

It really depends on what’s in my stomach first. If I’m going on an empty stomach, two drinks will knock me out. On a full stomach, a six-pack might get me to start dancing topless on tables. Or,in terms of mixed drinks, about 5-7 of them (depending on strength) will have me very happy. Reaching the 8 drink mark leaves me slurring and starting to get stupid. Beyond that, if another drink makes it to my lips, I’m surprised.

That being said, when’s the next doper meeting?

One glass of wine can make my knees buzz, two glasses is about all I can take. I don’t think that I have ever been to the stage of drunk. Just how drunk does someone have to be to be drunk?

Personally, I have drank for about 2 weeks, while I was in Belgium. While I was there I got drunk twice.

1st time: drank about 4 pints of beer – had enough to drink to know I couldnt do anything but walk and talk

2nd time: drank about 6 pints of beer – had enough to drink to know I couldnt do anything but walk and talk – felt kinda sick as well

mind this was on the very nice 9% alch. Belgian beer. okay, I’m still a cheep drunk

I attended the Dallas Doper meeting last night and had six glasses of wine and five beers, and I didn’t feel very intoxicated when I left. I would not have wanted to blow a breathalyzer sample (I knew I was going to imbibe, so I took a cab). I did have dinner, and the imbibing was spread out over several hours.

I stopped about an hour before the bar closed because I realized another one or two would have had me start getting some great ideas for funny things to do.

More than two cocktails or glasses of wine drunk consecutively start giving me a buzz. I start feeling it about 20 minutes after I begin drinking. I stop feeling the buzz about 20 minutes after I put the glass down. I don’t know if I could pass a blood test, but I very quickly feel as though I never took a drink at all. I also have never had a hangover.

Hmph. Here I am, trying to figure out how NOT to get drunk, and I discover there’s a whole world of people out there trying to do the exact opposite. Guess it goes to show you the world is a large and diverse place, filled with strange and interesting people…
