Or Gwen Stefani? :eek::asofyetnonexistentbarfingsmiley:
I don’t know that much about her, but isn’t she a hermit of Howard Hughes-like proportions?
Boy, I thought I picked tough subjects . . .
Entwhistle? I know an Entwhistle.
Actually, she’s not a hermit. (My mother has a good friend who knows her well, by which means I have a copy of To Kill A Mockingbird autographed to me. She usually signs a stack of them and then hands them out without personalizing them. End of brag.) She is a private person, and she lives in a small town where people know immediately who isn’t from there, and answer questions accordingly. She is, from what I hear, a charming and very funny lady who does not want her life to become public property. I would err on the side of respecting her wishes, myself.
Eve, are you thinking of Hot Toddy as a good Thelma Todd biography? It seems to be the one most people know about, but I think it goes into fantasy land at the end. And it reads to me like a tabloid, all breathless sensationalism. The "unnamed mob informant’ is just too cliched to be true. Or is there another one I’ve somehow missed?
Mikie, if you’ve done a lot of reading and research, you probably already knows this one, but Berkeley Breathed has a nice anecdote about receiving a letter from Harper Lee after running a cartoon that made reference to “To Kill a Mockingbird.” He was relieved that she took no offense; instead she appeared to approve of his (entirely respectful) comic strip. It’s in the intro to one of his books, and would make a good tidbit for your book.
You will keep us posted, won’t you? Your book is one I don’t want to miss!
Heard from Entwistle brother No. 1:
“I was only ten years old when Peg died and have only very sketchy memories of her. My brother Bob may be of some help as they were closer to each other. . . GOOD LUCK on your endeavors and HAPPY NEW YEAR . . . If you are able to write the book, PLEASE let me know where I may purchase a copy . . .”
Hmmm. Hope the older brother has more than that to offer, or I’m sunk.
