Goddammit (Warhammer 40K)

Picked up the Apocalypse book today. Shit be crazy. There is a 2500 point Eldar Titan!

Should be fun to get a bunch of people together and drop 15 inch pie plates.

Next up for painting: Iyanden Spirit Seer.

How does one get into warhammer without a friend of a friend? I have been around a lot of nerds. Anime, TCGs, fighting game tourny nights, even those body pillows I have seen but I have never seen anyone play warhammer.

Find a game store in your area. Even if there’s no one playing it there, they’ll know someone who plays.

As for the Apocalypse stuff, my Baneblade arrived Friday. I’m thinking of doing it as the Stormblade version.

Thanks! Now if I do a ten man assault squad, I should be near to 1000 points painted.

I agree with Hypno-Toad 100%, CandidGamera. That dreadnought is absolutely mighty!

I know the newer plastic models don’t come with banner poles, but have you considered installing one? A dead sexy back banna to rally your troops behind your burly stompa could really put this model over the top!

Well, I’ve been thinking about Banner poles a bit - several of the secondhand marines I bought have them on the sergeants, but they’re bare. I am wondering if I could just scan the banners from the codex, print them at appropriate size, and do some home-made lamination, and make suitable flags without having to free-hand all the painting I’d have to do otherwise.

I honestly hadn’t considering putting one on the dread, though. I guess I could - they don’t seem to have any game effect. I will take it under advisement! I also need to decide what kind of base to give this guy.

My next painting project will be one of my Reaper Bones figures - I want to do a sealant test - and then the aforementioned 10 man Assault Squad.

Only one thing about the dreadnought: It looks awfully clean for something so chipped up. A little dirt and grime would go well with the damaged paint.

I agree, but I’ve had basically zero experience with weathering, so it’s something I am going to have to toy around with. I probably won’t seal it for months, given the humidity right now..

Well, there’s plenty of hints and tutorials about weathering models out there on the net.

How’s that Assault Squad coming along?

It’s distracted by video games. Or, wait, that’s me.

Five of them are assembled and primed, because they’re from that set of secondhand marines I got a while back. Two more are assembled (partially) and not yet primed. Three are in bits form still.

Two of those last three, I plan to make into magnetized ‘specialist weapon’ troops, with swappable plasma pistol/bolt pistol/etc. The third will be the sergeant.

I’m hoping to resume work on them tomorrow, but it depends on whether or not Marvel Heroes decides it wants to be played.

I had to put “DO NOT TURN ON CALL OF DUTY WHEN YOU GET HOME” on my to-do list yesterday. And it worked. I managed to get a bunch of battlemechs repaired and a few commission minis finished. I’ve been commissioned to paint up ALL the minis for the “Super Dungeon Explore” game for an acquaintance and it’s really sort of a pain. First, it’s a huge order (over $450 before I even start on the expansions). Second, I HATE cutesy manga-style minis. Third, I just got the huge Bane-Blade kit and I can’t get started on it until I get a significant fraction of the commission work done. So it sits there and taunts me.

Ha! I just got Super Dungeon Explore this year, intending to paint the figures up when I have the time. But that’s way down the list for me, since it’s not commission work.

Got a little more assembly done, but I took a break from 40K to do a quickie paint of one of my Reaper Bones figures.

Not bad, not bad. I’m pretty Meh on the bones minis. Just too bendy for my taste.

Some of them are pretty sturdy - there seems to be some variability in the level of plasticizer they get. The nice thing about them being soft, though, is that they’re really hard to damage.

In any case, I’d used that zombie as a test case for a new primer I was trying out. Figured I’d go ahead and get some paint on him, because the primer stayed slightly tacky - didn’t want him collecting dust.

I’m painting a Farsight Enclave right now. Slowly but surely, I’ve got a dozen fire warriors done so far.

What’s the color scheme?

Some of my weekend got sucked up by plumbing issues, but I finished the assembly (except for Jump Packs) on the magnetized weapons guys, including their magnetized weapon choices : bolt pistol, plasma pistol, infernus pistol, hand flamer. I actually built one of the infernus pistols out of a bolt pistol and a SoB infernus that I’d gotten in a bag of bits.

Now I need to assemble the sergeant - power sword and infernus pistol or hand flamer, I think; with a magnetized optional combat shield.

I also bought Army Builder this weekend - with the change in the license structure, I was out of excuses NOT to buy it, so I have a 998 point force designed in there that I can field once these Assault Marines are painted.

I’m doing my Farsight in Khorne Red with black weapons and yellow insignia and eyes. Standard Farsight colors with yellow switched for grey.
