I’m very sorry about your loss, Cervaise. Have you called the appropriate state licensing board? They’re the source of the deficiency data you linked to earlier. Civil action against the facility is a lengthy process; in the mean time, an immediate call to the State will have examiners on site, looking to substantiate your report. Their findings go on the public record, which should help your case, and will help other people decide whether to trust that facility with their grandparents.
When I was young (26) I worked at the only facility in MICHIGAN that took care of not only the elderly, but those with H.I.V. etc. and the mentaly ill and the pay wasn’t my first issue . I’m not trying to say anyting other than people deserve to be treated with love and compasion till the end ,WHATEVER THAT MAY BE.
Not if you’re like me and have wisely invested money on your own. Of course this should be impossible, because in the perfect world I wouldn’t have any money to invest because it would be taken by the governemt and given to people who deserve it more than I do.
I’m so motherfreakin sorry, Cervaise - if there’s anything I can do to help, please email me. My family will be thinking about you and sending our best thoughts your way, for you and your family… I’m so sorry.
God, my stomach is doing turns just reading through this thread. I am so very sorry for your family’s loss, Cervaise.
[hijack, but I promise to give it back]
My 86 yr old grandmother is now also in a similarly tenuous situation at a respiratory hospital/lt care facility that she was xferred to from the hospital last week.
My aunt said that the person who came to suction her lungs yesterday ordered my aunt out of the room (something they’ve never done before) and then came out a few minutes later and snapped at her to “get her mother under control.”
My gramma was flailing and wouldn’t let go of my aunts arm. Kept mouthing “please please” and I think she said, “he choked me”… but because if her trach and respirator dealie, she can’t actually talk, she can only mouth words.
As weak as my gramma is, there had to be something terribly wrong for her to react so harshly. They suction her lungs out several times a day, so it’s not like she wasn’t used to the procedure.
Anyhow, I’ve been just fucking sick about it all day and I want to drive to the hospital, locate that jackass and shove his fucking dick through his larynx. Unfortunately I fear that any steps taken to remove this dolt from his position could result in him sneaking into my grammas room and taking it out on her.
So while I’m terribly sorry for your loss, I am so grateful that you have posted this thread and that so many have posted with suggestions to remedy inadequate and possibly malicious healthcare. I’m definitely going to apply all of the advice that I can to our own family nightmare.
You and your dear grandpa are both in my thoughts.
Using your own money to purchase your place in a nursing home will not guarantee that you will not be abused. One can only hope that your loved ones will keep an eye on things. Some jerks do have loved ones, don’t they?
No worries, folks–there is no guarantee that Hyde would ever have enough money to pay for long term care–LTC costs a great deal of money. Given his antipathy to any subsidies, he will most certainly return that Medicare money to the Gment, as a charitable contribution…or will he?
And there is no guarantee that rich old guys won’t be neglected as well. <evil laugh here>
Sorry for the hijack.
