I get back from class the evening to hearing a message on my answering machine. Its the master piano teacher at the studio I work at, she says she needs me to teach a half-hour lesson at six thirty on Friday.
This is not good news. I had bought a ticket to see a play (For school) at 7, and I don’t even know if they will let me in late (probably not ). I finish work the same time the play starts! So why am I so pissed?
Last monday my teacher had asked if I could teach on Fridays. I told her I worked at my other job from 4-6:15, but I could teach any time after that. She said she would have more students for me next week. When she said ‘next week’ I took that to mean Friday November 19th, not Friday November 11th  Thus, I thought I was in the clear by getting the ticket- I wouldn’t be getting new students until *next * week.
I had my cell phone shut off because I was in class this morning (when she tried to call me). Its too late to call her back, and in truth its really not fair to the student to have to wait another week just for lessons. Besides, its more money for me if I do it. My mom suggested that I call her and tell her I can’t make it, but I feel like that makes me look like the flake, since I had previously told her I could work on Fridays, then turn around and cancel at the last minute I kind of feel that since I am at least partly responsible, I ought to come through with the commitment.
It’s just frustrating having to commit to things that are never 100% gonna happen (the student may not even show up) and getting screwed over when I accentally ‘double book’ a time of day for tasks.
