Godfather 2 Questions

I saw this again this past week and two questions came to mind.

  1. After the attempt on micheal, either he or someone else mentions Fredo’s men. Fredo’s men? I was under the impression that Micheal didn’t think enough of Fredo(rightly) to give him any real responsibilty. It seems his duties are limited to taking care of dinky nightclubs and casinos as well as occasionally doing errands for his brother. So who are these “men” Fredo apparently commands?

  2. In Cuba, Micheal tells Fredo “After the New Years celebration, I’ll be picked up by a military car, and killed”. However, nothing ever comes of this. Was Mike just testing Fredo to see his reaction or did he somehow avoid it? He looked like he was being picked up by a Chauffered car as he left cuba.

  1. That day a very big bash was held at the Tahoe compound. Extra security was probably brought in. Fredo’s “business” was based out of Nevada, so it was natural to bring them in. Not such a good idea in hindsight.

  2. Michael told a lot of people a lot of stories once he became Godfather. (Starting near the end of GF I.) It was one of his ways to keep people off balance. We generally don’t know why a particular story was told. My guess in this case is that it served several purposes: It made Fredo worried. It meant that Fredo probably wouldn’t try to set up Michael in Havana if Michael was going to die anyway. Etc.
