Don’t forget, Yahweh the Demiurge is not omnipotent (for which we should be thankful!), and the supreme God doesn’t much care about us. (See Gnosticism.)

The variation on that joke that I’ve heard is:

There was a devout Christian who prayed every day to win the lottery. After years of constant prayer, he began to doubt God. One night during his evening prayer, he asked, “God, I’ve prayed every day for years to win the lottery, and I’ve never won. Am I not a good Christian worthy of having my prayers answered? What do I need to do for you to help me?”

The answer came back: “FOR CHRIST’S SAKE, BUY A TICKET!”
