From Ruben Bolling’s “Tom the Dancing Bug” strip. One of my favorite political cartoons of all time:
Bumping for the 2014 campaign.
Cute comic. What’s the topic of discussion?
The advantages of incumbency. And omnipotence.
You would think that one look at what God has done with those who side against him (the great flood; Sodom and Gomorrah) would make his re-election close to unanimous. Of course, God would have to provide a demonstration to prove that he could actually pull that off - I wonder how many vacations to Las Vegas would suddenly be “postponed”…
I heard a rumour he had a child out of wedlock. I don’t think anyone wants another John Edwards situation.
Yeah, but I think He can rely on the mom to keep her lip zipped.
Hey, even Saddam only won by 96% majorities and he dissolved his opponents in acid.
You think that “My soul gives glory to the Lord my God” is keeping her lip zipped?
Can God produce a birth certificate proving His eligibility?
Reminds me of this Calvin & Hobbes cartoon, and this Far Side cartoon.
Thanks. I’ve always loved that Far Side - it was one of the first to appear in our student newspaper the week I began working on staff!
I like the Calvin and Hobbes that comes right after that one, where Calvin concludes that armed revolution is the only option available for regime change.
Yeah, there’s like literally millions of people who can’t STFU about the whole situation, she clearly blabbed.
And I hear the kid’s a total hippy socialist, that’s not going to sit well with the conservatives.
I hope nothing bad happens to the boy, like some kind of convenient arrest and execution…
Fun fact about that Far Side one, I own a few Far Side anthologies where Larson discusses his comics. The original plan was for Norman to have a couple of points but Larson was afraid people would get mad because it would imply that god didn’t know the answer or wasn’t quick enough to answer a few times.
I’ve always wondered this about the cartoon: Was God’s perfect score through omniscience, or could he just change reality to suit the answers he gave?
Whether there’s any difference between those two is an interesting philosophical question.
Bumped for Election Day.
I wonder, if every voting-aged adult has to vote for some human for supreme deity, who would win?
Bumped again for Campaign 2016. Lord knows we could use a divine intervention.
