Gods sabbath day SAVED!

There are 613 Jewish commandments, of which the Sabbath is one (or more, I haven’t read them all).

Guess you don’t know any Orthodox Jews. No, they don’t start a fire on the Sabbath. They eat cold food if the fire goes out. No, it’s not a parable.

See, like I said - your religion is made up by humans, in this case with a contribution by yourself because you don’t want to believe devout Jews don’t kindle fires on the Sabbath when even a modicum of research in the real world will prove your belief false.

Mark 2:27
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Its true the Jews are part of mankind. I figure you are to

So you’re saying that some of the stuff in the Old Testament is just meaningless crap that the Jews made up, and not the actual word of God?

Answer carefully. You’re on treacherous ground here.

The “light no fire, do no work” rules are pretty central to the Jewish Sabbath. It’s right there in Exodus and Moses lays it out very bluntly: Don’t work. Don’t light a fire in your dwelling. Orthodox Jews take those rules very seriously as part of their Sabbath observances, so it’s not like it’s impossible (or even that difficult) to do.

You still haven’t answered the point on how you can pick and choose which commandments to ignore and which to obey. The Bible says many immoral things, many things I would not obey. Why should I even bother to pick through it to find the things that aren’t ‘parable’ (not that we’ve established any firm method to find out what is a parable and what isn’t).

So if the sabbath is “made for man”, what difference does it make if you observe it on Sunday instead of Saturday?

I mean, if you’re already blowing off the big rules that Moses handed down about how to observe the Sabbath properly, what difference does it make if you pick a different day?

Wow, so you think orthodox Jews are the final say on what we are to believe? Well…i think ill stick to the scriptures

Oh? That’s what you heard? Who was speaking?

Gee, maybe you should ask some Jewish people about their religion instead of just guessing. The Jews say ALL of those commands were made by God, so you certainly didn’t hear it from them, did you?

I dunno - but then, I’ve never been a Christian so, unlike some people who make up fantasies about other peoples’ religion, I admit I don’t know and I’d have to ask a Christian that question.

Right, but had he refused to provide an heir for Er’s widow, his younger brother could have provided an heir. By agreeing to a levirate marriage and then taking steps to not produce an heir he was attempting to acquire a larger inheritance of Judah’s property under false pretenses.

Well, why would I think YOUR myths are any better than anyone else’s myths? And don’t you and the Jews operate out of the same book? Or are you saying that the Old Testament is NOT the word of your God?

You said ‘kindle no fire’ was clearly a parable. You’ve been shown millions of people over thousands of years who take it literally. How is it then clearly a parable?

My myths bring all the goys to the yard
and they’re like ‘It’s better than yours’
Damn right, it’s better than yours
I could teach you,
But I’d have to charge . . .

Oh, really? You really think that some Orthodox Jew just woke up one day and said, “I guess I’ll make up this rule”? And that the other Jews just said, “Hey, great idea! Let’s run with it!” Under Christian, Jewish, and Muslim dogmas, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy were written down by Moses. Now, if you want to say that God didn’t concern himself with what Moses was writing down, you can try that argument, but you’re going to have to come up with a little more proof before I’ll take your word over Moses.

I would like to thank you all for discussing this matter of the sabbath with me. I know i have not replied to all who have posted. There are so many and im a one finger typer guy and my finger is gettin tired. See yas tommorrow and may all of you enjoy a wonderful thanksgiving day

Irony gold.

What about 22:11? “Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together”.

Seems pretty clear and unambiguous to me – not a lot of contextual wiggle room there – and probably ignored by virtually everyone.

Or do Orthodox Jews observe it? (serious question)

Apollyon Orthodox Jews hold (for complicated reasons with a few cites) that verse applies only to mixtures of linen and wool. Mixing any other two fabrics is fine.

ETA CMKeller explained it to me in the Jews Can’t Get Tattoos thread.

I’ll bet it would:

I’ll bet.

Since no one can say what was really the word of God and we just believe in the human that was supposed to have had God tell him certain things is not proof of anything. One believes in the human that wrote it,not God, so I doubt any God would be troubled if one didn’t follow the writings of some human. A human said it was inspired,or authored by God, hence so many religions. We humans pick and choose what, or who, we want to believe. Some put the value of a piece of land (or something else) ahead of other peoples lives, and that is a sad thing,I doubt any God would want such a thing to be used in His name.

Jesus, according to the authors didn’t think much about people who wore their religions on their sleeve, and made public showings of their religions. He asked his followers not to follow the example of the Pharisees who he called empty tombs, hypocrites, etc. because they wore their religious symbols and tried to act all holy, and better than the others.

Now the funamentalists and some others want people to write in God we trust on all their mail. Why they do not just trust in God I do not know, but find it so necessary to proclaim their religion to the whole world, Why not just live it as they were taught to do, and let God worry about the rest. To me that is a great lack of trust, to have to claim every where they go to make a show of the fact that they are believers.

Oops! even after that I gorgot the d in fundamentalists! Sorry!
