Going grey, salt and pepper style.

Yeah, getting old and going grey, but it’s going just one hair at a time. So at the moment, whilst I’m still predominantly brunette, there’s white ones trying to invade…just very very slowly.

And it’s not the gorgeous salt and pepper that I see on plenty of ladies, mine’s just dull and boring.

So I’m looking for some advice here: I don’t want to hide the grey hair, if anything I’d like to accentuate it so that it gives my hair some much-needed character. At the same time, I don’t want to do anything as drastic as bleaching my hair either.

Help me!

My wife had grey highlights put in to even it out at first and now has some subtly dyed to soften in some. The look is still grey but a bit warmer and with more depth. Well at very first she just dyed it but relented after I teased her out of it and kept on her about how the grey looked more interesting. (My wife is a cool person. I love her. Can you tell? :))

Sometimes gray hair can look yellowed. If you use the purple shampoo, it will help strip out that color (ask a hairdresser).

Nope, not yellowed, just plain old white. And what’s ‘the purple shampoo’?

And what is it with the ‘grey’ hairs that they come out all crinkled and wiry like pubes?? :dubious:

A company called Roux makes a temporary rinse that you can use after each shampoo to brighten up those grey hairs. There are many shades.

Or you could consider having your stylist put in lowlights for you to bring out the grey.

I don’t have a ‘stylist’. I go to the Cheapest Haircut in Town joints…no way am I gonna spend > $25 for a basic trim! :stuck_out_tongue:

But I will check out the prospect of a ‘lowlight’…not that I’ve ever heard of 'em before now.

Thanks.

I hadn’t heard of them before either until my stylist mentioned them. It does require a continuous upkeep and is expensive and it sounds like you don’t want to put your money where your hair is.

Try the Roux. It’s economical and subtle.

Or maybe, since your greying process is so slow, you could figure out some way to give yourself a good scare and see if you can’t get that effect overnight. Heh.

I have no idea how grey my hair is as I’ve been having it streaked for years. Should be interesting when I finally stop. Seems like it’s turning as yours is - very slowly. One at a time.
