No, it was perfectly shallow.

I commend you on your excellent word choice.
Really? Every single Biblical character, up to and including Jesus, explicitly stood for (which is to say, supported in so many words) slavery. I do look forward to your several hundred cites supporting each one of those claims you so recklessly made.
How do you know this is the motivation of the majority of CSA flag wavers?
Why can they not express their “southern pride” in some way that does not also express support for slavery?
Why is it, do you think, that only white folks have “southern pride”?
And what exactly does the fucking south have to be fucking proud about, specifically, compared to the north, the east, the west, or the centre? What exact accomplishments are so wonderful in comparison to other areas of the country?
Because we know know that pride over what you are (or in their case their forebears were), rather than what you’ve done, is a cause of an excess of self esteem and thus bullying and narcissism. Sound familiar?
So people supporting a cause that explicitly supported slavery is OK with you? As long as they themselves didn’t own slaves - that being impossible, of course, on account of slavery being illegal since 1865 and there being no-one over 150 years old.
Polls show that a majority of Americans don’t view the Confederate flag as a symbol of racism but rather one of Southern pride. I sure wouldn’t argue that it’s unreasonable to view the flag as a symbol of white supremacy given it’s history but it shouldn’t be all that surprising that so many people don’t see it that way. As a child my primary exposure to the flag was through The Dukes of Hazzard rather than people adopting the flag as part of their protests against the Civil Rights movement.
Some people chalk it up to the Scots-Irish influence. The Scots-Irish being a people known to be fiercely proud while their neighbors could only scratch their heads in bewilderment trying to figure out what in the hell they had to be proud about.
What surprised me was the article I read about the rally was that the KKK had 300 people show up. (Other group had 400.)
300 people for a KKK rally? In this day and age??
Can’t speak for the ones at the rally, but I’ve got plenty of them all over my facebook page – they’re the people I went to high school with.
They aren’t the only ones. Some of the people I went to high school with are black supporters of the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern pride.
And rallies! Oh, the rallies! (Note the locations.) Clue for the moderns: A few pickups bumping into each other does not a rally make.
The Illuminati ones. That’s mess with their heads.
I went to college with a black dude like this. He was ultra conservative who made Ward Connerly look like Malcolm X.
