Honestly, how in the year 2015 is the kkk still a real goddamn thing?
Of course the name alone will grab headlines, but since it is still a real thing, kkk: I hope it rains on your rally, and all your sheets get wet. And other bad things.
I was at my office today, which is located just a block down from the SC Statehouse. I decided out of curiosity to go take a look at their rally. It was a pretty small group, from what I could see. They were outnumbered by the onlookers, many of whom showed up with signs denouncing the Klan, and promoting racial unity. Hopefully, they got the message.
Police presence was extremely heavy, and it looked like there were police snipers positioned on the upper levels of the Statehouse as well. Thankfully, it was a peaceful day, but I did see on the local news that there were three arrests.
Columbia has been a very interesting place to be for the past few weeks.
Remember the Klan back in the 1920s, when one of their big things was hating on Catholics? They said President Al Smith was gonna dig a tunnel from the White House to the Vatican, so he could take orders straight from the Pope a’ Rome.
The Klan was more entertaining back in those days.
Why do I suddenly want to mention that I didn’t hear a single racist thing from Donald Trump? Ok, back to how the flag of the CSA is somehow racist. As to those ghost costumes, google the Knights Templars.
It’s really not much of a thing. The Klan, or, the Klans, since there is no single organization any more, has very little political or social clout. Broadly speaking you have three phases of Klan history. At its height in the 1920s the Klan had about 4,000,000 members. By the 1930s they only had tens of thousands of members.

[li]Original Reconstruction era Klan. Disbanded because they essentially won.[/li][li]20th century Klan revived after Birth of a Nation into a fraternal organization. More focused on anti-Catholicism than anti-black. Let’s face it, you didn’t need the Klan to be white and anti-black back then. Declined sharply in the late 1920s when key leader accused of rape and murder and petered out in the 40s. [/li][li]A bunch of independent groups siding with authorities in anti-Civil Rights efforts during the 50s and 60s.[/li][li]4th era of the Klan. Most people go with three eras of Klans but I go with four. In the early 1980s someone sued the pants off a KKK group in Alabama and won a huge settlement which bankrupted them. This really caused a further fracturing of the various small Klan groups. [/li][/ul]
The CSA stood for slavery, among others. But so did Jesus and every biblical character before him. The flag is being flown by those proud of being southerners, more than anything else. So, are there actual slavers among those waving the CSA flag?
