And that includes your fuhrer. I could always be wrong. I’ll belly up to the bar if they find any semblance of something that the Iraquis were actually hiding. NOT some trace contaminants. Not some missle that can fly 150 miles rather than 90 miles. Not some petri dish of anthrax(that we sold them 20 years ago) which might still remain in an obscure lab that time forgot.
The US government implied to Hans Blix and the UN that they knew about the location of WMD. But they just couldn’t supply the info.
Well, guess what. They ought be able to use their info to find the WMD, now that the US has the run of the country. If you know where it is, go for it.
Well yeah, it is kind of looking like Saddam was in compliance with 1441 isn’t it. I’d hate to see that “we gave him 12 years, and he still flouts the will of the UN” argument go down in flames.
You are way out on a limb there, Sam, but you may very well be right.
Consider the “rat out” factor. If oodles of Nasty Weapons exist, several hundred people know about them. It just not possible to make anything major in the way of WMD’s without involving a lot of folks. Any or all of those people are in a position to rat out Saddam.
OK, now maybe we can say they had no opportunity previously, Iraqi security was too efficient (on a par with our FBI, leak-proof), there was no way to get to a secure phone and call the CIA.
But thats all gone now. Poof! Anyone is a position of ratting out Saddam simply has to know that that is the ticket to a green card, a million bucks and a hot date with J. Lo. Lead pipe cinch.
So if the weapons exist, why arent snitch candidates beating a path to the nearest Army Intelligence unit? What could possibly restrain them from such an opportunity to cash in, big time?
Notice that they aren’t even mentioning it anymore. Now, its all about “liberating the Iraqi people”, our noble crusade of selfless courage. But that’s not the way it was sold to us, it was sold to us that Iraq was a threat, a dire threat, them or us.
We just beat the living crap out of a hollowed out third world military machine that probably couldn’t beat Belgium.
No, they are in Syria now. We bomb them next. Then the WMD will magically be in Iran, then Saudi Arabia, then Yemen, etc., as somehow magical leprachauns are moving them around one step ahead of our troops. Someone needs to buy Shrubya some damn Lucky Charms and end all this.
Let’s see the Allied Forces present some evidence first. Then we’ll decide how credible it is. FWIW, I’ve never ruled out the possibility of Iraq having WMD’s, but the “evidence” the US has put forth so far (remember that far-fetched presentation Colin Powell gave to the UN, of which half of the so-called proof was later declared fraudulent?) has been very, very thin.
Seeing as how WMD’s were one of the main arguments GWB used to justify this war to the American people (after he decided he didn’t need to justify it to the unconvinced world at large), and seeing as how that same administration now completely fails to mention them (except for when their troops discover another barrel of foul-smelling stuff, which usually later turns out to be argicultural pesticide, or White-Out or something), you’re damn straight I’m skeptical. I am open to the possibility that GWB et al never had any real proof to begin with, and that they bluffed their way into this war, hoping they’d find at least something that allowed them to say “SEE? WMD’s!”. And hey, if you don’t, there’s always the option of relying on that other reason, “liberating the Iraqi people”. Because surely, no one will give you shit for citing that as a reason. And while I don’t claim that liberating the Iraqis was never a genuine reason for the Bush administration, I sure as HELL don’t believe it was the dominant factor.
Monty. In spite of my use of the term “fuhrer,” I rather doubt that you would pay attention to any points I make. Pay attention to whatever you fucking like.
But please send me an email when they find the WMD. Until then, coast on through life.
My points stand, no matter my characterization of Mr. Bush.
I admire the courageous way in which you walk up to the chopping block and place your balls on it.
This is premature, but the high levels of radiation found make it seem serious.
You might want to read this before you offer to buy drinks:
So if we assume Saddam has WMD, does he get credit for not using them? Because another country with WMD, namely the USA, sure as hell would use them if it were in a similar situation. If Saddam has them and has not used them, that puts him ethically above the USA who is willing to use them for much less.
Sorry Scylla. It’s a cite from Fox, so of course there’s no possiblity that it could even possibly have even a hint of truth in it. As opposed to say, NPR, which is fair and unbiased in all ways.
Scylla. I read that story in depth this morning. I read the DOD briefing from yesterday. I took it into consideration. But I still think I now have the percentages on my side. I stand ready to admit to foolishness if they find the goods. Until then, thanks for your admiration. It’s not unlike something that you might do.
Fenris. Even a blind FOX finds an acorn sometime. But I’ll bet they’ll need a few more wars to find this one. Your NPR hyperbole characterization is beneath you. IMHO.
