Then watch yer ass! (For those of you who don’t know, Bonnaroo is a music festival that’s sprung up in TN.) Apparently, what the Tennessee Highway Patrol is doing is pulling folks over with out of state tags who’re doing 1 MPH over the speed limit, and searching their cars!
How do I know this? Because, suddenly, on the short stretch of interstate I drive that’s near the TN/KY border. there have appeared HUGE numbers of unmarked patrol cars! (Seriously, I counted 6 in less than 5 miles!) Every single vehicle that they pulled over was one with out of state tags, and in every case, the cops were searching the cars.
Shit for brains didn’t do this when “Fan Fair” (the Country Music Festival) was in town, but they’re damn sure going to do it when a bunch of “hippies” are in town! Nevermind that country music fans do as many drugs as those in the “alternative” scene, we’ve got to go after the hippies!
I heard it’s been cancelled because they decided they couldn’t control the crowds adequately with the manpower at hand. You might want to double check that.
Nope, not cancelled. They are still flooding into town…well, through town on route to Manchester. Already 6 miles of traffic backed up on I-24. Glad I’m not heading toward Chattanooga this weekend.
My friend offered me a free ticket to Bonaroo. After thinking long and hard, I didn’t take it. The crowds were the #1 reason why. Now, I love music festivals, and have been to dozens in my time. But I heard they were expecting like 100,000 people or some crazy number like that. And I knew from past experience that the crowds and traffic would be outrageous. I am sure people are waiting in line in their cars for like 10 or more hours to get in–not my idea of a good time. And when they get in, think of the enormous crowds. How would you ever be able to find your way back to your car and campsite? And, can you imagine the traffic on the last day? All those people trying to leave at once? WOW, I can’t even imagine. It will probably take an entire day to leave. Not to mention, can you imagine the state of the portable toilets after 4 days?
I would be interested to hear from anyone who went, to hear what it was like. I am sure there are going to be many fun elements to the festival, but I just don’t think I could do it!
I imagine it will be very Woodstock-esque, but without the love. If I were a young person, I’d do it. But being the geezer chick I am, I don’t think I could weather the storm anymore. But you kids go and have fun.
Bring toilet paper and a garden spade. You don’t want to use a porta-potty after 4 days in the hot sun.
Try to bring your own water. They’re getting something like $4 for a bottle at festivals these days.
SOP, my friend. In Memphis, if you’re driving a vehicle without of state tags, and doing 1 MPH over the speed limit, they’ll pull you over and search your car. Heard about this over ten years ago, and didn’t believe it, until several years later I happened to be watching an episode of COPS and they showed the Memphis PD doing just that. This state’s a goddamn police state in many ways.
OK…I don’t post here much at all but i thought i’d see if anyone had anything to say about bonnaroo. I just got back from working on the parking staff for the festival and I must say that it was a great job. My crew parked at least 30,000 cars: No assholes ruining the fun as far as I saw. Everyone having a good safe time. Neil Young blew my sober mind as usual. I’ve never been to a concert like this and I am suprised that such an event can occur without any major mishaps. All the attendees were super nice and considerate. If there was no love there then I don’t know what love is.
I have to agree Cation… I’ve never been to such an event with 100K people where EVERYONE was extremely polite, courteous, and willing to help with anything. No one seemed irritated at the crowds and long lines. The porta-potties where cleaned every couple of hours so they never did get any “worse” as the days passed (alltough they were pretty bad before every cleaning). The traffic jam coming in was expected and we waited in line on the interstate for about 4 hours. Leaving Bonnaroo was a piece of cake, we were out in less than 5 minutes. The staff there was very polite and helpful… and all in all, I really miss being there now that I am back home. I can’t wait for Bonarooooooooooo III
