Goldeneye for N64

One hit kills? Hell no. The best way to play was to take everyone’s health down to the lowest that it would go. That way, if you just winged someone, it would take two or three shots to bring them down, but a head shot would do it in one. It rewards accuracy much better that way.

As for the OP, yeah, definetly the best FPS ever, second best multiplayer game on the N64 (after Mario Kart).

A wing in one hit kills would occaisionally leave a man standing. I took a couple of hits and just barely survived. It would have to be an extremely piss poor shot though.

God I love Goldeneye. My dad and I often played it. It was always fun to sneak into the secret passage on the Archives level, and shoot, then duck back in the passage and close the door. My dad didn’t know about the passage. I killed him despite the fact that he had the golden gun.

And Perfect Dark is good, too. Especially on a small level, like Facility, with 8 Sims on Easy mode, with nothing but proximity mines.

Half-life is better.

Being on the PC, it allowed for endless add-ons created by fans, which has produced one of the longest lasting games ever. Counterstrike itself(a free, fan -made addon) could be on any list of influential games of all time.

Goldeneye is cool, though, and perhaps the best console based FPS.

One thing that really made it extra cool for me was the fact that the N64 controller felt like a gun. The grip was similar to a pistol and there was a trigger in the right place. It didn’t feel like I was fighting by proxy. It felt like I was really pulling a trigger to a gun. That added an extra level of realism. When you squeeze a trigger and your friend goes apeshit with anger it feels electric. What a wonderful button. I always thought it was stupid when N64 games would use another button as “Fire” (though most games would let you reconfigure). What better way to discharge a weapon than with a trigger? It’s something I miss in the Gamecube Controllers.

I loved Half-Life, but I preferred Goldeneye’s multiplayer significantly more. I simply did not feel the play mechanics for Half-Life were ideal for multi-player.

Half-life has the best multiplayer for a FPS ever, but the catch is that you can’t be in the same room with friends unless playing on a network. The good part about Goldeneye is that it broke the screen into four parts for you to play.

Of course, you couldn’t play it online.

No, SSBM is!
You can kill psychotic eskimos with a NINJA MAN while they fight on a giant evil racetrack and they all ingest magic mushrooms!
And a stick figure and a buff wizard begin killing them!

Goldeneye did certainly rock. Some funny things I remember:

Chairs and tables would EXPLODE if you shot them!
In 00 mode you could sometimes shoot a guard in the face and he wouldn’t even blink
A gaurd in a dying animation would block your shots, but allows gaurds behind to shoot you… grr!

The coolest features:

Shooting through glass / glass breaking
Stealth elements - e.g. security cameras
Varied missions
Fun weapons

Goldeneye was ahead of its time, IMO. Definately a classic game.

That’s a pretty big deal IMO. I really don’t like online games because I don’t give a flying fuck who I’m playing against. It’s a whole different ballgame though when everyone’s in the same room.
