Golf Magazine’s 20 Greatest Golfers, done for its 50th anniversary issue.
Debate the picks. My personal opinion is that the inclusion of Annika Sorenstam, without inclusion of Nancy Lopez, already has it on shaky ground in my opinion.
But I cannot complain about #1.
I would like to know who did not have both Tiger and Jack in the 1 and 2 spots.
The list was debated on a golf discussion forum I go to. The consensus was that Bobby Jones was not the #3 player. Personally I would rank him #3 but most on that board disagreed, but the margin between Jones and Hogan is considerable, more than I would have thought.
I would not rank Lopez ahead of Sorenstam or Mickey Wright or Zaharias. Actually i would rank Wright ahead of Zaharias and perhaps ahead of Sorenstam. Mickey Wright had an incredible career and retired from full time playing status at age 33. FTR, Zaharias gets my nod as the greatest female athlete ever.
I find it strange that they only ranked 20 golfers for the 50th anniversery issue. I would have gone with top 40 men and top 10 women for a total of 50 golfers.
