Good-bye Air Mattress, Hello Bed!!!!

For the last 2 months, I’ve been sleeping on an air mattress in my apartment. I’d never had a bed of my own (my apartment in St Pete was partially furnished, and when I moved back in with my folks, there was the bed in the spare bedroom), and didn’t exactly have the money to buy one. So, I ended up with an air mattress on a platform on the floor. Let me tell you, those things may be comfortable for a few nights, but after 2 months, I was so stiff when I got up in the morning, it took me 1/2 the day to get the kinks out.

Then, last weekend, it was decided that it was time to get a bed. There were a lot of Labor Day Weekend sales going on, and I got a great deal on a queen-sized bed. They delivered it yesterday, and last night was my first night of comfortable sleep in a long time. I woke up this morning without as much stiffness, and finding the joys once again of a night of uninterrupted sleep. The bed is wonderfully tall and roomy with the perfect amount of firmness, and soon it will have new sheets and a new comforter. It already has lots of pillows adorning the bed so I don’t have to move the pillow with me when I roll over. Then, the next purchase, I think, will be a headboard. All in all, though, I love this new bed! The air mattress is now packed away in the closet, hopefully only to be seen if company comes over.

So what new purchase do you feel like gloating about??

Yeah, you! I knew that air mattress had to be getting old.

Oh Lord, yes! I did everything I could to make it comfortable, but when the quilting started popping out and I had a big lump of air all the way down the middle, I knew it was time for something new.

And since it’s a larger bed, there’s more room to do fun things on it.

Anyone up for a game of Trivial Pursuit?

Room for fun is good.

Would that be strip Trivial Pursuit, per chance?

[I really have to get to New York one of these days]

Congrats on the new queen-sized bed! By bf and I got one this past summer after spending a MONTH sharing a single bed! (we were between apartments at the time and weren’t able to get the new bed til we moved). It was SO amazing! I love that bed! The single is now in a spare bedroom, hopefully used only for guests as well!

Do my school books count as any special expense? We are planning on buying a bar fridge soon… And I got new underwear two weeks ago! hehe

Is there any other kind???

Yes, we have to find a way of getting you here, that’s for sure!

mnem, of course they count! School itself is a special expense! And good bar fridges are a plus… and you can never have too much underwear!

And I’ve tried sleepin’ double in a single bed (now I can’t get Barbara Mandrell out of my mind! :)), so I know how uncomfortable it can be. Congrats (a little late) on the bigger bed, where you both have room to be comfy!

Okay, I give up. Where the heck is ‘shippin-pippin’? Upstate NY?

You know, I should have read what I wrote a little more closely. The italized words are really the only things that are supposed to make sense… the rest is supposed to be me a la the Bugs Bunny cartoons. She actually lives in Downsville, which is Upstate NY. But maybe they should rename it “Shippin-Pippin”, to avoid me looking like a total fool? :o

Wheee! I’m delurking!!

anyway, again congrats on the new bed.

I’ll second that it is indeed super comfy.

And by not mentioning how I know this it’ll leave
that innuendo hanging there. But not wanting to
seem kinky I won’t mention any whipping that took
place on it.

Hide anything shiny and I’ll play Trivial Pursuit.

Congrats, I just bought a brandy spankin’ new queen size bed myself
(Yeah I’m single but I’m anticipating future growth in the number of occupants).
I never realized how uncomfortable my futon was…

And the joy of new 100% cotton sheets and a new comforter…wow

Whipping? Me? Now where would I have ever gotten a whip? Or two? Especially one one with multi-colors on it? And do you really think that lurker would have sat by and allowed this???

Yeah, you did manage to get a little distracted with those tiny cars, didn’t you? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d thought about the futon, but was talked out of it. Now I’m incredibly grateful that I was. More room. Sturdier. You don’t tip the bed over when you both end up on the same side of the bed…

Now you’re making me jealous! I’m using the sheets I’d gotten for the air mattress (also queen sized), but still using my old twin sized blanket for the moment. Tonight, though, I should be buying the wonderfulness that is new sheets!

That’s a trick question, isn’t it?
