Good computer games and joysticks

Except for a few fun things on the Wii, I’m a PC gamer. When reading some reviews recently, I was taken by a great reference to older game IL Sturmovik 2: 1946. It’s only ten bucks and apparently arguably better than the new one.

However, I don’t know if I want to lay out 20 or 30 bucks on a joystick, just for one game. I’m sure IL2 will meet my flight sim needs, so I’m just wondering what other PC games are out there that need/take a joystick that are really worth getting.

Thanks!

Pretty much any “flight sim” or “spaceflight sim” game - the real 1st person sim ones, not the “click to move” kind - will play better with a flight stick. If you have any serious interest in the genre, you should be buying a stick. If you’re just looking to fool around a bit before going off to play Civ or Modern Warfare 2 or something, you can probably skip it, but if you’re investing serious time, get one. A good USB stick will stick with you for years if you stick with the hobby.

Good point. Strategy is my real “home” genre, I suppose. Though I have loved some flight combat games in the past. Waaaaay back when I had an Amiga 500, Birds of Prey and F/A 18 were awesome.

Hmmm.

If you need added incentive though, Freespace 2 is now sortof free, and it’s a great game that benefits from a joystick as well.

This whole dilemma is pretty close to the one I’m in right now, which is “Do I blow a fairly stupid amount of money on a proper fighting game stick for the 360 when Super Street Fighter IV comes out.” -_- Decent fighting game sticks are stupid expensive. Makes me sad.
