Good King Win--chechfllllkisss--ess?!?!##*'':?

Exactly.

Did you hear that?! Winklehof is king! Good King Sauerkraut must of is dead!

Man! I didn’t even know he was sick!

Don’t we know archaic barrel,
Lullaby, Lilla Boy, Louisville Lou!
Trolley Molly don’t love Harold,
Boola boola Pensacoola hullaba-loo!!

In the 5th grade Christmas concert I got to portray the old man picking up sticks.

One of the offspring keeps playing songs from the Phineas and Ferb Family Christmas. Their version of Good King Wenceslas is cool.

TIL that the song was originally a carol for St. Stephen’s Day (although I guess the first line should have told me that). I didn’t even know that St. Stephen’s Day has carols.

Hmmm? Oddly I should feel affinity to a feast of Stephens.

I swear I thought second line was “on one Christmas morning”.

Weird.

I think you’ll find that you were gathering winter fuu-uu-el.

I just remember it was cruel out there.

Since St. Stephen’s Day is Dec 26, singing it mixed in with Christmas carols doesn’t seem like a big deal.

Listening to Baby Shark should cure that earworm.

I always thought of it as

Good King What’s -His-Face looked out

On the Feast of Stephen

It’s one of the songs in the Chrustmas Carol book we keep in the piano stoool, so I learned how to play it.

I love that, in my Penguin Dictionary of Saints, they feel compelled to point out that the carol is not about Saint Wenceslaus, who is completely different from any king of that name, although the internet appears to think otherwise.

My brother once told me that his class at school once took the opportunity for a minor disruption by making sure they really emphasised the one word Heat was in the very SOD

So, where’s the chess game that the thread title apparently promised?

I prefer Good King Kong.

Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Polly wolly cracker ‘n’ too-da-loo!
Donkey Bonny brays a carol,
Antelope Cantaloupe, ‘lope with you!

Hunky Dory’s pop is lolly,
Gaggin’ on the wagon, Willy, folly go through!
Chollie’s collie barks at Barrow,
Harum scarum five alarm bung-a-loo!

Oh, THANKS. Thanks a LOT.

^^Yeah. Really. That’s cruel and unusual suffering.

My mother’s birthday is the 26th, and as such it’s her favorite carol.

Please, please let her name be Stephanie :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:
