Good movies with a lot of sex and little or no violence

Like the title says. Any recommendations? (Not porn. I already have plenty of that.)

sex, lies, and videotape

I think you’ll have to help us out with the ‘not porn’ part. Do you mean not porn in the sense that you don’t want a link to RedTube or do you mean not porn as in you don’t want any nudity?

In the mean time, if you’re comfortable with some (well, a lot) of gay sex, Shortbus is really good, but very graphic (the sex us uncensored and not simulated). It’s also a John Cameron Mitchell movie.

I don’t consider Shortbus to be porn, because it has a real story and themes, and something to say. It’s got an artistic purpose other than sexually arousing the viewer. So yes, that’s a good example.

But explicitness and nudity are not required! And yes, gay sex is totally OK!

I’m also going to say that Catherine Breillat’s Sex is Comedy counts, even though the story is really about actors pretending to have sex — very meta, but a good little movie.

Last Tango in Paris

And Inserts staring Richard Dreyfuss as a 1920s porn director. Lots of Jessica Harper and Veronica Cartwright on display

IIRC The Cook the Thief His Wife and Her Lover had a fair amount of sex in it. But also some disturbing violence.

Don’t forget 9-1/2 Weeks. Kim Basinger at her yummiest.

And there’s Unfaithful with the equally yummy Diane Lane,

And the campy awful, but fun, Showgirls.

If you hadn’t specified “Good movies”, I’d suggest Exit to Eden, which had a whole lot of nudity and only a little bit of silly violence in an odd FBI/Jewel Thief subplot.
But it was definitely not a good movie. Definitely not a good movie.

I’m trying to think of movies with “Libertine” type themes.
madsircool suggested Bernardo Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris. Bertolucci also did Stealing Beauty and The Dreamers both of which featured some good nudity (and both of which are excellent films).

All three films in Lars von Trier’s “Depression Trilogy” (Antichrist, Melancholia, and Nymphomaniac) all have a lot of nudity but also have quite a bit of violence. Actually, it’s been a while but I don’t think Melancholia had much violence but I also think it had the least nudity of the three.

Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz has a whole lot of nudity and no violence and it’s also a wonderful film.

The 1994 Australian film Sirens has quite a bit of nudity.

ETA: Boyo Jim’s mention of Diane Lane made me remember A Walk on the Moon …if Diane Lane is the kind of person you’d like to see naked.

Just want to mention/apologize:

I was just scrolling down the Café Society page again, and I saw the Thread title Good movies with a lot of sex and little or no violence

…and I thought to myself, “Heh, didn’t I just post in a Thread titled Good movies with a lot of nudity and little or no violence?”

Well, no. I didn’t. I responded right here to this Thread that specifically asks for sex, not necessarily nudity.
Sorry.

Of the movies I mentioned:
Really the only two that count for this Thread are The Dreamers and A Walk on the Moon.

Antichrist and Nymphomaniac fail the “little or no violence” test (although, I did mention this in my original post).

Exit to Eden, Stealing Beauty, Take This Waltz, and Sirens, though they feature lots of nudity, do not feature much sex.

I apologize for bringing so much nudity with so little sex.
Please accept my suggestion of Room in Rome as a peace offering.

Antichrist fails the “little or no violence” test, and it’s also - depending on which version you watch - very disturbing and dark. I watched it with some mates and some parts of it stayed with us for weeks after, and we aren’t exactly thin-skinned. I know you already mentioned it, bienville, but I must emphasise how fucked up that film is.

Not saying it’s a bad film, just that it would never qualify for a ‘Good movie with a lot of sex and little or no violence’ in anyone’s universe.

Yeah, I know enough about Antichrist to know that I don’t want to watch it.

Sex and Lucia.

Mmmmm Paz Vega.

Starlet, an indie drama about a young woman who does porn and befriends an old woman. Doesn’t necessarily have a “lot” of sex, nut it does have a hardcore scene, where real porn stars filled in for the “real” actors.

I haven’t seen Cry Uncle since it came out in 1971, but I don’t recall it having violence. There was plenty of sex – including inadvertent necrophilia and a woman with a gun forcing a man to give her a blowjob.

It’s a comedy.

Body Heat has a bit of violence in it, but some of the steamiest sex everrrrr!!

In Praise of Older Women…hot hot hot

Here’s one I just watched:

A sensitive Italian drama about an illicit affair.

It’s an odd movie for reasons unrelated to the sex so I don’t often recommend it unless I know the person’s tastes pretty well, but Velvet Goldmine is IMHO a good movie, has little violence, and features a variety of sex scenes including man/woman, man/man, and a 1970s orgy.

Edit: This movie stars the now much more famous Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale, if that’s a selling point.

Bull Durham.
